My Favourite Guys

 * * * LATE-BREAKING ADDENDUM * * *

As Adam noted in the comments, Jiwandeep Kohli's
rainbow turban caught the eye of Barack Obama:

And here's a cool short video about
Jiwandeep's reaction to the whole situation!

  2. What a fantastic turban, and a powerful message. What a great way to kick off Thursday morning, and sending some hugs your way! RO

  3. Good ones! The last one I thinks hits me the most, and the one about the chain saw, the serious side of them all, I have actually heard people say things like , so sad, but the funny ones do help soften the blow of how ghastly people have been treated, no one should ever be judged on their choice of who they love,

  4. Oh, I read all these and I just went gay all of a sudden. Just like Cary Grant. Thanks for all the smiles... and laughs.

  5. I just can’t choose. They are all absolutely fantastic.
I love how there’s this current of wit and humor in many gay people that allow to make these connections.
I think that an honorable mention should be made to the idiot bigot who posted the Brokeback Mountain scene without a pinch of irony though.

    XoXo

P.S. I may steal some of these....

  6. That tank top/dress is hysterical. Definitely not like the picture. That has to be Cary Grant in the first one, right? I am trying to place it thinking it was when he wore Katherine Hepburn's robe in Bringing up Baby, mentioning he felt so gay. That had a double meaning for him then! His sex life still to this day is somewhat hush, hush.

  7. I love them, but the ignorance of the Brokeback Mountain post is priceless.

  8. These are all hysterical! The soldiers and Achilles got me going, though!

  9. Yesterday in story time in the library the librarian read a story about a transvestite crocodile. It's called Frockodile. Look it up!

  10. I used the word transvestite as we don't find out what he does or will identify as. And, you see, now i am covering myself although I am sure you would not take offence if I used the wrong terminology because I'm old. And struggling to sort it all out.

  13. Bringing Up Baby is one of my favorite movies. What's going on is that flighty heiress Katherine Hepburn has fallen for stuffy paleontologist Cary Grant. In order to prevent him from leaving the house, she's taken all his clothes. When the doorbell rings, Grant has nothing to put on but Hepburn's frilly dressing gown. When the elderly woman (Hepburn's aunt) just stares at him, Grant yells the gay line. Mind you, this is in 1938, when "gay", for most people, meant "happy". it was obviously a very inside joke.

Years, decades, later, Chevy Chase was sued by Grant for implying he was gay in a television interview (it was settled out of court in Grant's favor; he reportedly got a million dollars out of Chevy.) I remember reading somewhere that one LGBTQ magazine at the time, taking offense at Grant's contention that Chase had defamed his character, brought up the first mention of the word "gay' in the homosexual sense of the word in a mainstream movie. Whether Chase's lawyers used it as a defense, I can't tell you.

  17. @ Kirk -- Thanks so much for all the background info on that Cary Grant gif!

  18. @ Liz Hinds -- Frockodile! Love it! And I think "transvestite" is still correct terminology in this instance, although "gender fluid" might perhaps be more up to date? I don't know myself, LOL -- I'm old too! Some people must still cross-dress, I'm sure, without it being a statement about their own personal gender identification.

  19. @ Adam -- Thanks! I'll see if I can find it and amend this post accordingly! I think that turban is just stunningly gorgeous.

Many of these gave me a laugh. I like the protester/activist with the sign pointing out how he is much like Jesus.
