Tarot Supermodel (You Better Work)

Ordinarily, as a card-carrying lesbo,
I don't give a rat's ass
about Haute Couture, but
I note with interest that
Christian Dior's Spring 2021 Collection
is inspired by tarot imagery
and queer love, both of which
are right up my alley.

Here's the photo spread of various
Dior Major Arcana outfits
from the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar
(a magazine which I can assure you
I have never otherwise read
nor purchased) --

In other tarot news,
Her Royal Highness the Cat's nose
is seriously out of joint about this.

She just published her own feline-inspired
interpretations of the tarot and
it's not getting anywhere near
as much attention --

I think her Devil card is
particularly inspired, don't you?

Darling Debra,

I am sure that it will come as no surprise to you to learn that we have in our time taken in 'Harper's Bazaar'. It is not [as can be said of most things, these days] as it was, but these images with which you delight us today could persuade us to purchase at least one more copy.

Such a wonderfully creative and imaginative collection. It seems to reach to a deeper level than most haute couture collections which can be dismissed as frippery in the main.

And, your cat images are totally inspired. The Devil.... amazing.... copyright the set...this could catch on!!

Hello Debra, I wonder if next year they will get around to using regular playing cards as inspiration--I suppose that would be finally coming full circle. In the meantime I'll have to think of my own theme as inspiration for a deck of tarot cards. The similarity of the hanged man and the devil cards to any real persons will be purely in the imagination of the viewer!

How did they even do that Devil cat picture? I hope the cat wasn't really sitting on the burner ring while the flame was on.

By what majick was the cat devil card brought forth?

I much prefer HRH’s version! Purfect!

I would change the kitty in the Devil, black-cats get so demonized, most are very sweet and no more evil than any other kitty.

awesome. i admire the mind that came up with this idea.

What a coincidence - the outfit the Star is wearing is the one I wear to do housework - the dusting and vacuuming and washing up!

Ohhh fashion AND whimsy? Yes, please.
I love, love, LOVE The Star and The Devil versions. Luxe!
And those kitties! LMAOOOO
The High Priestess is absolutely me.

XOXO

@ EVERYONE -- I can ASSURE you that NO kitties were harmed during the making of my tarot deck. PHOTOSHOP produced those flames around the kitty in the DEVIL card. That is, however, MY handgun in the High Priestess card but it was UNLOADED the entire time.

HRH is THE STAR cat.

I've never purchased a harper's or a vogue or any of those other "fashion" magazines because (a) IDGAF and (b) I ain't a girly girl.

LOL, I can't pick a favorite cat card, so many good ones. I do love a good fat cat and the face on the magician is priceless. The devil - yikes! Photoshop makes things look too real!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually prefer HRH' tarot deck to Dior's creepy, dark version!

Judgement, The Star and The Devil are all good, but The High Priestess is HRH to a T... She's lying through her fangs, however, as HER handgun is ALWAYS loaded!

@ Tundra Bunny -- You know me too well.

Fashion always comes back around!

Dior's going to be pissed that you figured him out.
Star cat wins.

What the what?!? Dior? Oh, I suppose this is supposed to be edgy. Bah! Just another piker dabbling in that which feels arcane and mysterious. Still, the girl on girl pictures are pretty (said the dyke).

I'll take the deck created by HRH instead. So creative! She's a genius!

Awesome post again, friend D! I know nothing about Tarot, let alone about fashion (said this T Shirt/ Sweater and jeans girl). My Theo Thunderbutt sends greetings to your Royal Highness, and cat is sending greetings to D :) Stay happy, healthy and warm, hmmm? Sending love, c.

OMG ~ HRH's interpretations of the tarot is brilliant ~ LOL ~ and so much more fun than Harper's Bazaar's! And I agree, the Devil card is particularly inspired! But so is Judgement! ROTFLMAO! The fashions in HB's layouts are quite striking, but really the Hanging Man one should have featured the woman hanging upside down by one foot. You are so much fun, Debra! I don't tell you enough how much laughter you bring to my life!

Yes, I do love her Devil card. But I also love the Dior card collection. Anyway, there are plenty of card-carrying lesbians who love haute couture. Don't forget 2013 when Lagerfeld had two woman in what looked like wedding gowns walk the runway in honour of France's same-sex marriage bill. Granted, they were extremely creepy (like out of The Shining)... but still.

Love that cat Tarot. I think the Harpers Bazaar pictures are just gorgeous. That white horse looks a little like Liathach, the wonder horse although cleaner. Much cleaner.

hahaha! LOVE it- I have a wonderful old set of Tarot cards and used to play with them with my roommate. She was VERY good at them and I became quite good too. I haven't done anything with them in years though...but they are beautiful! xo Diana

Wow what copy cats. ha ha ha. I like the cat cards better. My faves are The High Priestess and the Devil. Great post.

There are pants on no one save the Hanged Man. Well, hang it all.
The puss's however, are brilliant.

I love both sets of pictures.

Whoever thought of the Cat Tarot is a genius.

Christian Dior did a great job! So cool!!! But, I have to say, HRH gets my vote! Well done!!! LOL! Big Hugs Deb!

I like those Dior cards. Color notwithstanding, they're like something you'd see in an old Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich movie.

Martha said...

Oh, that devil cat card! HAHA

Any cat that would do that truly is the devil

Bat wings and horns - I like that one

I don't care about fashion, but I can appreciate it and this collection is lovely.

Those are beautiful (both the haute couture and the cats tarots). I am not into tarot, but have a friend very much into it. We bought a deck for her in Montreal and she was very happy, she said one must receive tarot cards in order for them to work, they can't buy them for themselves.

Obviously there are too many people out there with too much time on their hands and being paid too much money in dress designing. I think Her Royal Catness has much nicer cards!

Oh my gosh! Those outfits! Who would've thought they would ever come back?
I'm a big fan of HRH and all the looks she's put together; fine choices!

I'm not one to pay too much attention to fashion either, but I totally loved that video. I hear that Bridgerton inspired clothing is also creating a bit of a buzz, but no one can quite figure out what to describe it as (Edwardian? Regency? Victorian??? Tiktok Cottagecore???)

Liz Hinds said...

But does anyone actually wear those clothes? I flick through similar mags in the hairdresser's, mainly so I can say, '£450 for a scarf?!!!!'

Much prefer HRH's version of the cards.
