Canada has the world's largest population of Ukrainians outside Ukraine itself and Russia. Ukrainian-Canadians are especially prevalent here in the prairie provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Canada is currently taking in a lot of Ukrainian refugees, many of them coming to the prairies where relatives and the Ukrainian-Canadian community are eager to help them.
One of many fundraisers going on right now in Edmonton and Calgary to help war-torn Ukraine and displaced Ukrainian refugees is Pysanky For Peace. Local artists have painted giant eggs (either six feet or three feet tall) with traditional Ukrainian Easter Egg (pysanky) motifs or other designs. In a couple of weeks they will be auctioned off, with the money used for humanitarian aid and displaced Ukrainian families. They are currently on public display receiving bids.

Such a worthy cause!
What's happening in Ukraine is such a tragedy. Ugh. Hate Vlad. And some of these are truly pieces of art. I hope businesses bid for them and place them where they can be admired.
XOXO
They’re stunning. I hope they bring in lots of money.
We need to put Putin and his Cheetoh in an egg, and roll them all the way to a war crimes trial.
I'm usually against the death penalty but... 👀👀👀👀
Great idea. I'm sorry Ukrainian people have been driven so far from home, but glad they have a community to go to. Wondering how the future owners of the eggs will display them.
Neat idea
These are gorgeous! Such talented people. We have a Ukrainian community here which is actively fundraising too and doing well with it.
It has been a long time since I felt any concern for any country and its politics - including the U.S. But we should all be Ukrainian.

Wow those eggs are gorgeous. I am surprised that one does not have a death to putin motif, however.
What a great idea. I'd love to buy a bunch and just set them out in my yard under the trees.
Pretty incredible! Love the detail on the first one but the more contemporary designs are also delightful. Where do they get the eggs?
The war in Ukraine is such a horrible tragedy. I can't see it ending well, even if it ended today. The country is already in shambles. It seems to be just another manifestation of something gone horribly wrong with humanity.
@ Frank -- I assume some local company manufactures the blank eggs for free as part of the fundraiser. I believe they may be fibreglass?
These are beautiful, Debra! What a wonderful fundraiser. I'm glad that the Ukrainian refugees arriving in Canada can go to an area where they can feel at home. btw, the bee images in your sidebar are awesome. Have a happy weekend with your Rare One!
VERY cool!! Both the intent, and the art work are magnificent!
These are gorgeous works of art! I have such empathy for the people of Ukraine, it breaks my heart to see what is happening to them. Praying for Peace everyday. I keep thinking of the post I did a few months ago. Wondering why we have to have a war to finally remember that peace and love is all we need...
"Age Of Aquarius"
When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
The eggs are beautiful and I hope their fundraiser exceeds expectations! Ukraine and its people need all the help we can give.
Beautiful post. Have a lovely day.
The eggs are beautiful..What a great idea for a fundraiser..Have a good weekend..
These are amazing! Beautiful!
What wonderfully inventive egg designs! I hope they raise a lot of money.
What a heartwarming and thoughtful idea. I saw people talking about these types of eggs on the local news a few weeks ago.
It's a beautiful idea, and I hope it helps immensely. It is emotionally draining watching the destruction of a country and its people.
I hope they raise a lot of money as well as hope.
I'll go in for $10 on a group bid. Who's in with me? $10 ought to get me a flake of paint that fell on the floor.
Some impressive work there! Are most of them by Ukrainian artists? I hope they sell well.
@ Sue Bursztynski -- Yes, I believe many (if not most) are by Ukrainian-Canadian artists here in Alberta.
Cleveland also has a sizable Ukranian population (as well as every other Eastern European nationality--I myself have both Polish and Slovak in me.) Such a fundraiser would go over good here.
They're all so beautiful. I like the traditional designs best, but any one of them would look lovely in anyone's garden.
Wow! they're beautiful. I can't decide which I like best.
I really like the Daena Diduck one.
I presume you put in a bid? I am sure it would look great on one of your full moon altars.
Way cool art work. I know United States taken in refugee from Ukraine. Although I feel they could step up and do much more. But I'm sorry to say I doubt my community will do anything.
Coffee is on and stay safe
Thirty years ago, we had our wedding reception at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Warren, Michigan. Never felt more welcome, more comfortable, more right than there that day.
Beautiful designs! Refugees will feel better to see them.
All stunning! Such a worthy cause.
Wow! The eggs are amazing. Surely this will generate a lot of money for such an important cause.
lovely, lovely lovely!
These are all so lovely and what a worthy cause; I hope they make loads of money.
Prayers for Ukraine.
Wow, wow, wow!
