Friday Face OFF -- Chameleon

For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of

Here's a whimsical chameleon which I did
in a recent watercolour pencils class.

Cute as the dickens, isn't it?

Big, big WOW on this!
THIS is done with watercolor pencils? Ingo gave me a set of Giorgione watercolor pencils and I kinda ... find no proper way to work with them.
Yours is perfect. And such fun, too!

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Ur-spo -- Well, that's one way to keep the scorpion population down.

Remember getting those big all-day suckers? I am amazed you can get all that color with pencils! You really are talented with the drawing/sketching!

I've seen pictures of Dickens, this is waaaay cuter! Such talent. I couldn't even draw the sucker let alone the chameleon.

@ Iris Flavia and @Marcia LaRue -- The key to using watercolour pencils is to apply the pencil colour to a small area and then activate it as paint by going over it with a wee bit of water on a small brush. Small details (like the texture and speckling) can be added at the end just using dry watercolour pencil with no water.

Well, Shirley wouldn't think so. *Smiles* My Grandson had a Chameleon named Ivara and she Died on my Watch, they are adorable, but not very Owner attached and they are very difficult to keep alive, especially in dry climates. I much preferred his Bearded Dragon, which, I could keep alive for him until he could come retrieve them Months later after he found an Apartment that would allow Reptiles. I could never get over having to BUY live Insects... instead of hiring someone to kill them. *LOL* And the Beardie got to be over Two Feet long so that was intimidating, if Alduin had a bad day, everyone was gonna have a bad day... but Bearded Dragons are much like Domestic Pets, they get attached to Owners.

I LOVE this. I think this is my favorite of all your Friday art. And I've been meaning to ask, do you keep bees? I see all your bee items on your page. I have bee and I'm always on the lookout for other bee keepers. Happy weekend! Hugs-Erika

@ My name is Erika -- No, I'm not a beekeeper but bees are very significant to my life! Here's the explanation (just copy & paste into your browser) --

Hello Debra, I tried to look up the Telus ads, and saw lots of cute animal ones, but couldn't find a direct inspiration for your drawing. Your is probably much better, anyway.
