For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Here's a bobcat peeking out
from behind a tree which
I did in coloured pencils.
Its white whiskers are created using
the technique of embossing.
Before any colour is applied, the whiskers
are essentially engraved on the paper
with pressure from a stylus.
Once the bobcat is coloured,
the whiskers then show up as white against it.
My favourite part of this piece
is the bobcat's little pink tongue!
It was done using light pink,
dark pink and violet.

WOW!
This is fabulous, Debra, and that little, pink tongue is really the icing on the cake! Love it so much, you have a great talent! Hugs, Valerie
...I like it licking its chops!
Another fabulous drawing. I looked forward to see what you would share this week. I like bobcats, and I like your piece also. Happy New year to you Debra. hugs-Erika
Great drawing. Interesting idea about engraving the whiskers before coloring the rest of the cat.
Love it. I'd never heard of the embossing technique but it's very cool.
Clever technique and very, very beautiful outcome!!
P.S. #24 is on tomorrow, alas!
I like the texture of the fur and tree bark.
What a clever idea with the embossing. I never would have dreamed but now that you point it out, it makes perfect sense.
Gorgeous.
What a wonderful painting ❤️
Happy New Year 💖🌟
You are just amazing. Your art brings joy. Yes, that little pink tongue pops with all the camouflage. Thank you for sharing this beauty with FFO and have a fabulous day today.
Beautiful!
Thanks for explaining the finer points of your gorgeous art!
Absolutely STUNNING!!!

Very good piece of art. And thanks for telling us how you did the whiskers. Otherwise, I would have though you laid down some pieces of string and verrrry carefully colored around them.
Gorgeous artwork and you're right about the best part...I mean if it doesn't show its tongue, is it really a cat?! 😻
I think that's a pretty incredible illustration. I understand colored pencils can be very hard to work with.
Awesome Bobcat portrait ~ Wow!

Hello Debra, A beautiful portrait with amazing textures. I also like the blue background texture. How can you create such an even texture over such a large area, with pencils yet?
--Jim
wow Debra that is absolutely stunning :-)
The eyes really show the intent!
The pink tongue is a masterwork. I've got the pencils. I'll await your arrival — and expertise.
He looks like a very cheeky bobcat.
Up to something I’d say.
Brilliant work
@ Parnassus (Jim) -- Oh, I can't take any credit for that background texture. The blue background is just a very light shading of blue and the texture of the art paper itself (Stonehenge brand) is simply showing through it. You don't see the texture in the rest of the piece because there's several layers of colour there which cover it more completely.
@ Moving with Mitchell -- Thanks for your kind words but the expertise here belongs to the instructor who taught the embossing technique! As well as everything else, lol.
Good effort, Debra -- the tree bark looks real!
Another masterpiece by Debra! What kind of tree is that? 😄
Striking, Debra! That tongue looks positively real. I had no idea that you could create whiskers like that! Hugs to you!
@ Mike -- Apart from it being a deciduous tree of some description, I have no clue whatsoever!
The Bobcat looks like it wants to tear my face off
I love a bobcat and yours is so divine. I LOVE the wee pink tongue.
I love him with his tongue out!
Love,
Janie
Lovely!
Deb, he's a lovely little feline. Well done!
WOW Debra, this is a wonderful picture. You have a great talent.
Looks great. You are a whisker expert!
I love your bobcat, fabulous textures.
The look in the eyes says it all. Well done.
Hey, let's pretend that we are all secretly pagan and pretend that we are all looking at garden catalogs? There, doesn't that look nice?
Girlfriend - you're remarkable. Your artwork keeps improving as does your keen eye and talent for detail. I love this.
Have a very Happy New Year, Debra. HRH too.
Haha bobcat. You didn't get me this time.
Love the Bobcat..I never thought of embossing things like whiskers..I could have/should have done that with my recent cat. Instead I used masking fluid which can be a real pain..Cute tongue...
Beautiful!
BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL dear Debra!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤
You are such an IMPRESSIVE artist girl 😍
It must be challenging but you are amazing at details. Yes the feel in her eye and her tongue is perfect wow !
Proud of you!
Hugs
