I'm taking part today in
Monday Murals hosted by Sami.
In honour of the Gold Medal in Men's Curling
and the Bronze Medal in Women's Curling won
by Canada in the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics --
Here's a mural celebrating curling that is painted
on the Jasper Place Curling Club in
my city of Edmonton, Alberta.
It was created by local artist Jill Stanton.
The mural depicts the evolution of curling brooms
from the sport's original corn brooms
up to today's modern push brooms.

Original big mural is stunning, and yours is impressive ๐
I just listen radio and they speak there that always interest of Curling game ๐ฅ grows up after Olympics here. I watched also the finals of Swede and ๐จ๐ฆ, congratulations ๐
...a wonderful mural about a sport that mystifies me.
A friend of mine took a curling lesson over the weekend with her ex-husband.
Fun mural!!!!! I don't know I'll ever understand curling.
So Canadian, I love it!
Interesting mural. A lot of work went into it.
Very curl... I mean cool. I don’t really understand curling and always find it silly when I watch. I need to educate myself.
Beautiful big mural.
Also, I'm sure you know that all the curling stones are made from stones quarried on Ailsa Craig (like the tomatoes), a small uninhabited island in Scotland.
I had a huge discussion with someone last week about curling and how I find it so fascinating because it's slow and precise, unlike so many other Olympic games.
I am going to share the mural with him today because I know it'll make him nuts:
"A mural about curling!??!?!?"
What a lovely and colourful mural. I have only heard of curling because of the Winter Olympics. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Debra.
That is quite beautiful!
Curling is a great spectator sport. The unbelievable precision of the shots combined with the strength of the sweeping keeps me in awe of those athletes.
@ Liz Hinds -- I know they are all made of Scottish granite, but I didn't know the precise location it is quarried, so thanks for that info! I know each stone comes in its own beautiful carrying case. My uncle had his own stone.
That's an awesome mural!
Those are great.
What a colorful mural!
I love how the northern hemisphere embraces curling. In the Olympics the early rounds start before the opening ceremony and the whole competition lasts longer than any other sport. Or maybe it just feels that way, lol
๐ฅณ Congrats to Canadian Curling! At the Olympics, the curling venues were sold-out every day!
๐ฅ The US Nationals in curling start today at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC!! And, a full-scale National Curling League is in the offing! Anyone who does not fully understand the sport (like me ๐ต๐ซ) better get busy!! A fun start in understanding what the sport means to people is to watch "Men With Brooms" (2002 movie) starring Leslie Nielsen [Canadian Cutie! ๐จ๐ฆ]. ๐
@ Cleora Borealis -- Yes, "Men With Brooms" is a Canadian movie classic! The other male lead, Paul Gross, is a Canadian Cutie as well. Americans would know him best from the TV series "Due South."
Wow, that is a gorgeous mural. What a talented artist!
A wonderful mural. I knew nothing about curling. But during these olympics I learned a lot about it
A perfect mural for today, Debra. I enjoyed watching the curling even though I don't understand all the rules.
Love the mural. The broom evolution is cool.
@Liz Hinds -- A recent episode of "Repair Shop On The Road" featured the family-run curling stone maker that made all the ones for the Milano Olympics. It was fascinating!
A beautiful mural indeed! I miss the "thwack, thwack, thwack" of the old corn brooms which made curling more fun to play.
https://www.kaysscotland.com/curling-stones ...Their site has a short video of them making the stones.
Colorful and uplifting. Your artwork below's even more striking.
Ah, just thinking of corn brooms. Remembering the sound of sweeping rather than loud blowers, those were the days! Beautiful mural!
Lovely mural to celebrate curling and your close ups are very nicely done.
@ Rawknrobyn -- Well, "my" artwork in the sense that I took the closeup photos of the individual scenes in the mural!
Love the mural!
And Curling is such an under appreciated sport!
XOXO
@ CAAZ -- Two years ago when I took those closeups, I almost got frostbite because it was -30 windchill and I had to take my gloves off to work the camera. I should have waited until the summer, LOL!
@ Mike -- Thanks so much for that link! The video is FASCINATING!
That's very colorful.
That is so cool. Love how colorful it is.
I thought that curling was something that happened in hair salons.
I love murals, especially when the celebrate something as outstanding as wins at the Olympic.
Beautiful mural. Bright, vivid colours.
This is lovely!
They use brooms? I like the murals.
This is truly a masterpiece
I have yet to figure out the rules of curling, but the mural is stunning!!
Okay! That's cool!
Oui, trรจs cool :)
Il nous faut une murale comme celle-ci ร Montrรฉal.
Les grands Canadiens !
Monsieur Dupuis ๐จ๐ฆ
Beautiful mural...I never could get excited about curling but I did watch it!!
I must confess, I don't find curling to be very exciting.
I love a good mural. We have a couple in Sheffield by the city's celebrated artist Pete Mckee.
