I'm taking part today in
Monday Murals hosted by Sami.
I took this photo in April, 2012 at the
Itsukushima Shinto Shrine in Japan,
which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was a temporary mural on a wooden hoarding
built to hide some construction/restoration work
going on behind it.
I'm a fan of Japanese taiko drumming
and of course, as a Canadian, I'm also
drawn to any depiction of maple leaves!

...it's too nice to only be temporary!
I could see that on a building in Philly in their mural artist program.
I’m also a fan of taiko drumming. Incredible that that was just temporary.
Temporary…too bad!
Construction covers need not be ugly or utilitarian.
That must have been so amazing to see in person!
I just love the simplicity of the art work.
We've got a mural being done here on the Strip that is already causing issues --- simply because it depicts a Ukrainian who was assaulted and murdered. What is the world coming to?
So glad you are joining us. This is a wonderful mural, I do hope it is still somewhere.
The drumming appears to be causing the maple leaves to start falling. It's probably what happens when a maple tree is stressed.
What a pity it was only temporary, it's beautiful! Thanks for joining and participating in Monday Murals Debra.
Impressive mural in Japanese style🎴
Next fall I can send you some maple leaves. Lots of them!
This is beautiful, Debra.
Love, love LOVE!
I think murals/graffiti IS an art form that should be recognized more. Here in Chi there's a whole section of some elevated train tracks that was offered to graffiti artists to create murals. It's fabulous.
XOXO
I think you enjoyed Japan as much as I did. This is beautiful.
How gorgeous! Taiko drumming is so stirring, and nothing better than gently falling autumn maple leaves...
I love ❤️ Chinese and Japanese art. Beautiful ❤️
Hi Debra, I am guessing this mural is a clever apology for the construction noises coming from behind the screen.

What a beauty, shame it was only temporary.
@ Parnassus (Jim) -- That never occurred to me! D'oh!
A peaceful theme!
Nice find!
If that's temporary I'd love to see the permanent art.
It's very nice.
I hope it ended up going somewhere to continue to be displayed for all to admire It’s beautiful
I never thought about this before, but do they have maple trees in Japan?
@ Kirk -- Yes, they do! The tree in the mural is specifically called a "Japanese Maple," which has spectacular red leaves in the autumn. It's also a popular tree to miniaturize as a bonsai tree. The Japanese word for "maple leaf" is "momiji" and they have a popular treat called momiji cookies which have a variety of fillings. We sampled them all!
