Hello, Blogging Buddies!

Well, my recent blogging break
has concluded, so here I am again!

I did lots of things on my break
which you will learn about in due course
via various posts to come over the summer.

I did take a road trip for part of that time --
can you guess where?

Yes, that's right -- my home province and old stomping grounds
where I used to live until moving to Edmonton 30 years ago!

The provincial sign is located at the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border.
It depicts the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg
which is one of the places I went to in the city.

And of course, the Bison is the symbol of Manitoba.
This sign comes from a Tim Horton's en route,
so that's why it says "Always Fresh" in the breezy sky.
They mean the donuts, not the bison!

I visited some old friends, went to some
new attractions built since I last lived in Winnipeg,
revisited some of my former neighbourhoods
and favourite spots, and had a very good time!

And boy, do I know when to get outta town --
the day I left there was a tornado a few hours later
in a small community near Winnipeg.

Luckily, no fatalities but here's a look
at the ominous clouds gathering --

Welcome back. As for, “can you guess where?” … I’m gonna take a wild guess here and say “Manitoba” though it looked like you almost landed in Kansas.

We all need an occasional break. When we were towing an RV through Manitoba, we found ourselves in the middle of a buffalo herd. We cut off the truck engine, sat very still - it freaked our cat out.
happy trails

Welcome back...looking forward to reading your insights about travel. I've visited Manitoba several times but only once to Winnipeg...we visited Flin Flon several times when I was a kid. Looking forward to hearing about the museum (and more)...would love to see it someday.

Wow. That is quite a picture. Luckily, I have never seen/been in a tornado. Strange enough, I was just reading about a Mansion in Houston that had flooded during Hurricane Harvey and was still sitting, deteriorating so many years later. I wish that act of Climate Change had happened to a certain Florida location so someone might realize there is such a thing.

Glad to see you're back and had a nice time away. I haven't been to Manitoba. But that is a cool sign. I hope you show back up on my feed, so I'm glad you stopped and left a comment because I didn't see you there.

Hello Debra, Well, now life can go on for the rest of us. You are back just in time--it was only hours ago that I came across another weird pineapple reference, and who else am I supposed to torture with it? Anne Spencer Lindbergh wrote "The People in Pineapple Place", a children's book (involving innocent children!). Anne was the daughter of that ultra rat, Charles Lindbergh. Before yesterday, I did not know about his THREE secret families in Germany--apparently an attempt to repopulate the fatherland: https://www.mnhs.org/lindbergh/learn/family/double-life

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Parnassus (Jim) -- Oh, I welcome every reference, weird or otherwise, that you send me! Charles Lindbergh was a total asshole and not just because he was a fascist. He's buried on Maui, you know, in a churchyard on "the road to Hana" highway. Needless to say, I have never bothered to go see his grave on any of the many times I've been in Maui. Oh, and another thing -- my favourite conspiracy theory is that it was Charles Lindbergh who accidentally killed his baby via "shaken baby syndrome" and then covered it up by the kidnapping/murder story. Apparently he essentially took control of the investigation and the police let him do it because of his fame and power.

DVArtist said...

Hi Debra, so glad you are home safe and sound. As the others, I have missed your posts.

Parnassus said...

I did not know of this theory, but it makes perfect sense, especially as Lindbergh was well known as being a control freak and strict disciplinarian with his family. I perhaps assumed that the tragedy was legitimate because the murder was pinned on Hauptmann, one of Lindbergh's pet Germans. But even lightly dipping into the trial results in a flurry of Jewish accusations and innuendos, in other words Lindbergh being his usual Nazi self, even in 1932. --Jim
