All seven Canadian teams were put in the North Division to play each other during the regular season . . .
. . . which means that in the first and second round of playoffs, the qualifying Canadian teams will also be playing each other. Canadians love it because these particular all-Canadian match-ups have not occurred in decades.
The last time the Montreal Canadiens played off against the Toronto Maple Leafs was 42 years ago in 1979! My gawd, I was still in university then!
And the Edmonton Oilers have not played the Winnipeg Jets in a playoff series since 1990 -- 31 years ago! I was still living in Winnipeg then! As of that date, I hadn't even visited Edmonton yet.
The Oilers/Jets match-up starts tonight and it has put me in a bit of a dilemma.
Who should I cheer for -- my former city or my current city? I'm torn!
But My Rare One and I have resolved the issue by deciding that she will cheer for Edmonton and I will cheer for Winnipeg. Spread the luuuuuv around, I say!

Oh, I loved this.
I did not understand a word because I know NOTHING about sports, but the idea of all-Canadian teams playing each other can be epic. I think I'll go with the Oilers? They sound like fun.
XOXO
Sounds like a very good compromise. I'm not much of a sports person, but so many important people in my live take their alliance to their baseball teams pretty seriously.
The interest in hockey with this format is huge in this country, though it is. big usually anyway.
I always stick with my original home team no matter where I am, but spreading the love works too. :)
looks like philly's season is done.
Hockey...that's the one where they dribble that oblong ball around on the ice and hit it over the net in the middle with bats, right?
I can never keep all these sportsball things straight... :-P
Maybe this will be the year a Canadian team finally brings the Stanley Cup home to Canada? GO CANUCKS, FLAMES, OILERS, JETS, LEAFS, SENATORS AND HABS!!
I... simply... can't... contain... my... excitement.
Can... you... tell?
I do, however, like the maple leaf format for the 7 Canadian teams. Is that new this year?
Hockey... Hoorah... Hoorah... Hoo...
Rah...
Good solution, This way, no matter what happens, you are guaranteed a lot of excitement. Enjoy the games! --Jim
Hot puppies !
Break out the ketchup crisps !
Oilers? Jets? Does this have something to do with competitive flying or mechanics of some kind? Or candy making contest hence the maple leafs?
Uhhh not my thing at all but it is a good post for those who are.
i can't wait for the habs vs the leafs!!!
The other good thing that came out of Covid was for me to know where my trunk release is in my 4 year old car..Never had to use it until now! Curbside pick op of groceries, birdseed and wine made it necessary to figure it out..Still using those conveniences..Hope they don't go away..
Good luck in the Playoffs whoever you choose..
Hmmm - well I guess all that is good - yay! But, we don't do hockey much way down here in the hot part of the world. And, I don't really get the whole professional sports thing.
Here's hoping St. Louis and Edmonton make the final round.
I only wish my mother had been alive to see this - she use to say that those "damned American teams" ruined the sport for her. She watched every Leaf came that was televised until three months before she died at 93. Hope sprung eternal!
It's all so exciting!!! Big Hugs!

Mistress Maddie should not deny knowledge of the Oilers. Who could forget the infamous picture of Buster Bolfig in his sportsroom?
Ooh, that's a toughie. I'm going to have to add to your cheers for Edmonton, though. I have family there. It's nice to know you'll be thrilled for the winners whomever they are.
So who won?
@ Liz Hinds -- The Winnipeg Jets won 4-1 over the Edmonton Oilers! Clearly my cheering helped.
How entertaining this season must have been for you guys! It sounds like you ladies will be celebrating its fun!
My Edmontonian neighbor is LOVING this season! True, he has to purchase a special tv package, but it's worth every penny to him. (Not too happy about the Oilers loss, but it's still worth it.)
I'll stick to the Leafs, as always, until they are defeated, as always. Sigh
Great logos. Happy cheering!
That will be filled with elation!!
Have you ever seen "Mystery Alaska"? Russell Crowe, Burt Reynolds...
@ Susan Kane -- No, I've never even heard of that movie! But I checked out its page on Wikipedia and now I do want to see it, even if it got panned by Rotten Tomatoes -- what do THEY know? Any hockey movie is worth seeing, LOL! My all-time favourite hockey movie is "Slapshot," of course. What a classic!
good that covid made teams play together :)
since sometime i cheer for team who plays better no matter which side it belong to :)
Spread the love-I love that. I know nothing about hockey or the teams/playoffs, but have fun!!
Oh my, as a Vancouver Canucks fan, COVID totally ruined the season. Not sure who to cheer for. Yay Boston Bruins..
Gary.
wow.how great for canada..who won?
@ Jackiesue -- So far, in their respective best-of-seven series, the Jets are leading two games to nothing (Oilers better get their skates on!) and the Leafs & Canadiens have each won one game.
