Hubs and I are invited to a Solstice party this evening at 7pm. What were the hosts thinking? We are usually falling asleep in front of the TV by 8 o’clock. Also asking an expert: What is proper attire and etiquette for a Solstice party?

@ Frank -- Have fun at the Solstice party! No special attire or etiquette that I'm aware of!

@ Marie Smith -- Yes, I heard on the news how PEI and the Maritimes are getting hammered right now. I hope everyone's power stays on!

I love the Winters Solstice, Debra! There's a lot of pagan in me. You enjoy, and tell HRH that I love the kitty circle!

Happy Solstice! A friend (who died way too young) was born today. I've always paired the two winter events together.

@ Tundra Bunny -- Well, you know HRH. She insisted that no expense be spared!

Why isn't today January 1st? We need to look into that.

Happy Solstice indeed. Love these celebrations of the seasons. And, in goodness of the day, I'm wrapped in a crocheted blanket, sipping on a raspberry mocha. Not too shabby.

Codex: Hello. I'm curious. What is the significance of the labyrinth on solstice?

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Anonymous -- Hi Codex -- People like to use labyrinths for introspection and "walking meditation" all year around. Labyrinths can be especially popular at Winter Solstice since this occasion is regarded as a time for contemplation and looking inward. Walking a labyrinth lit by candlelight at night or in the darkness can be a very powerful way to mark the Winter Solstice.

Ah. Thank you. I thought there was a deeper meaning behind solstice labyrinths beyond contemplation.
