For today's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Nicole's challenge for us this week is
to do a portrait of our own choosing and
accompany it with the photo on which it is based.
So here's my portrait of
Bucky Barnes the Winter Soldier,
drawn freehand directly in white ink pen
on black Stonehenge paper.
I am very pleased (and relieved)
that this turned out so well.
It's based on this promotional poster by Marvel Studios
for its recent superhero movie Thunderbolts* --
Incidentally, if you haven't seen Thunderbolts* yet,
it's a good movie! The point of its superhero plot
is to explore mental health issues and the
emotional fallout of trauma, guilt, shame and loss.

Good job!
Another beautifully done drawing.
Better than the original!
This did come out amazing. And I agree with Marie, yours is better than the original. I feel like there is more personality in the face. Have a super Friday and weekend ahead.
WOW! That is amazing...as good or better than the original! Haven't seen that movie but will look for it! Hugs- Diana
...I haven't seen Thunderbolts, but I must say that you did a fabulous job.
I have taken many art classes over the years, and drawn for pleasure quite a bit, and I have never quite mastered that shadow and light style. Yours is fantastic
Hello Debra, This is one of your most dramatic yet--superb realism. Mr. Barnes will now have to face the fact that he needs a haircut.

Unf.
Why is this sexy?
XOXO
Wonderful!
Stunning! I'm loving the intricate details. It's fascinating how one's mind automatically completes the shadow part.
That is very good!
Your drawing is wonderful, Debra!!
Another beauty, well done!
🥰 Very good choice for your challenge...James Buchanan Barnes, in each and every permutation, is smokin' hot! 🥵 And your work is an excellent capture of the dark/light, yin/yang of the character. ☯️
😊 But, Debra, you little scamp, somehow you made Bucky's 🫦 a tiny bit more pronounced and kissable than the original (who knew that was even possible?). Perhaps a little wishful projection on your part?! 😘 Not that there's anything wrong with that! 🤭
I think it's hard to do any portrait justice since we can do it in many way but this is great.
Have a lovely day.
@ Cleora Borealis -- I do confess I'm not a perfect Kinsey Six, only a 5.9, LOL.
Wow, Debra! I like your drawing better than the original because there is more light and detail in it. Like Nicole, you are a wonderful artist! 🙌🏼
Awesome!
Wow! Good likeness!
Stunning. You did it so well.
I wanted to see this one and didn't get to. Bucky is very cute. Great art.
PS: Did you hear? I just now heard that one of my fave Canadian Actors/Artists passed. Catherine O'Hara - she played Sally Skellington. Also my fave. Sad :-(
Amazing, Debra! Very nice!!!
You are quite a talented artist! Wow!
Love the design
Wow it’s brilliant. A fantastic job
@ The Happy Whisk -- Yes, I just saw this news about Catherine O'Hara -- so shocking! I have been watching her my entire life, right from her SCTV days.
WoW!!!!!! I do believe your drawing is better than the original. You have such confidence in drawing freehand in ink of any color. This is truly a fine tribute to Bucky. I just showed this to Mr. M. and he also thought yours was better. I'm always so impressed with your are but this takes the prize if there was one. Thank you so much for sharing your art and talent with FFO and the portrait challenge. Have a great weekend.
@ DVArtist -- Drawing directly in ink puts the fear of god into me, I must confess. But when it turns out well like this one did, I am over the moon! I guess this is as close as I come to living dangerously, lol.
That's very good, Debra! I would have no idea where to start on something like that.
Yes! Already thought it's Bucky before I read the name. Amazing work!
What a great job, it turned out so nicely.
You did a great job. I like the hair on yours better than the original.
Very sad.
Hello Shewhoseeks. We will take any champion that we can get, even if he looks he looks like that fukkin Boromir. I hope you are well. We are doing okay.
@ Richard -- I never noticed it before, but you're right, he DOES look like Boromir! I think it's the hair hanging down in his face. But that's okay, because Boromir is a fave of mine too.
That's SO cool! Drawing on black can be tricky, but you did beautifully. I need to look up the movie, too!
That's excellent, Debra. He has such sharp, dramatic features.
Love,
Janie
Full of courage!
Excellent drawing. My older daughter used to draw on black paper with pastels.
Wow, fabulous portrait.
Beautiful artwork!
Excellent, Debra! White ink on black paper is quite dramatic and I love it.
Who needs AI when we've got Debra!
Wonderful artwork! Have a lovely weekend and thank you for visiting my blog. :)
