Monday Murals -- LGBTQ+ Pride Murals

I'm taking part today in
Monday Murals hosted by Sami.

This triptych of LGBTQ+ Pride Murals
is painted on a building at NorQuest College
in downtown Edmonton.

I believe the first mural celebrates the transformative journeys
of transgender people. It is entitled #HereForYou.

The second mural, set against the colours
of the Progress Pride Flag, honours
Indigenous Two-Spirit People.

I call this mural "Let Pride Be Your Umbrella!"

It warms my queer heart to see these murals
of acceptance and support for my community!

I remember all too well when such public statements
were never made and could never be made.

I failed to take a pic but some of our busses have the colors and motto, also.
There is still so much to do.
My best friend has twins with her girlfriend and they don´t want to marry (they could) because there would be no benefits the kids considered. A shame.

I love them all!! Esp. the umbrella and Indigenous. My BFF (of 60 yrs, YIKES) is Mohawk and I was just chatting yesterday to my gay cousin!

Love the Two-Spirit one.... the loss of that particular culture is very sad.
But the Umbrella one? Gorgeous and Pure genius.

@ whkattk -- Yes, colonialism and western religion did their best to eradicate Two-Spirit culture and respect in First Nations societies, but today there is a strong, resurgent Two-Spirit pride movement, which is something for us all to celebrate and to learn from!

😍 Beautiful work! It saddens me, though, that there are people who can look upon butterflies and feathers and umbrellas and raindrops to see only hatred. 🥺 Can anything heal them? Hoping. 🤞🫶

Beautiful Artwork. Have you considered designing a mural of your own, even if just as concept art n paper?

Lovely; especially the indigenous people's one.

@ Sassybear -- I haven't considered that, but maybe I should!

These are all so special. Such a great feeling to know there is acceptance and inclusivity in the community. In that respect, my country is far behind.

They're all very striking murals. The butterfly's colours are beautiful, though I wouldn't have known it celebrates transgender people's journeys if not for your post!

All I can say is high time! It's about civil rights. And minding our business about people's personal lives, and who they love.

Oh!
Absolutely love the LGBTQ mural with the two-spirit nod!
Yay representation!

XOXO

It does my queer heart good too. I just answered an email from my church confirming my willingness to take part in a Pride march next month.

A few days ago my husband and I were eating breakfast in a restaurant and three people walked by, one a woman whose hair and demeanor led me to believe she was a strong lesbian woman, one a beautiful man whom I felt certain was transgendered and one whose hair was purple, whose presence made me think that perhaps their pronouns are they/their.
I looked at my husband and said, "Family."
