My Favourite Book of the Bible

As most people know, the book of Leviticus in the Bible declares homosexuality to be an abomination and condemns its practitioners to death. Homophobic Christians rely almost totally on Leviticus to fuel their anti-gay bigotry but of course, Leviticus also contains a whole laundry list of other forbidden activities which conveniently get overlooked or forgotten. Activities which haters (and everyone else) regularly engage in. Mmmm, is that the sweet, sweet smell of hypocrisy in the air or are we just near a pig farm?

Yes, we're looking at you, Duck Dynasty bigot.

Bible thumpers can cherry-pick with the best of them!

And Gawd forbid you point out their hypocrisy to them, LOL!

Here's my final word on this topic --

Yeah, we don't give a flying fuck what Leviticus or any other so-called holy book says about us!

People Get So Needlessly Worked Up Over Gender

OMG, we can't let kids play with the "wrong" toys! Or can we?

OMG, we can't let people wear the "wrong" clothes! Or can we? Lay some wisdom on us, Eddie Izzard --

OMG, we can't let people change their genders! Or can we? What's the big deal?

OMG, so what does this new word "pansexual" mean? Don't worry, your kitchenware is safe --

It means people who are attracted to people regardless of their place on the gender continuum, rather than being attracted solely to those who fit the traditional definition of male or female.

Yay Blackhawks! And Farewell, CBC.

Following the elimination (alas) of all our Canadian hockey teams from the Stanley Cup playoffs, My Rare One and I switched our allegiance to the Chicago Blackhawks because their Captain is that good Winnipeg boy, Jonathan Toews. And here he is hoisting the Stanley Cup which the Blackhawks won last night against the Tampa Bay Lightning! YAY!!!

In the midst of this celebration, however, there is one sad note, at least for me and I'm sure for many other Canadians "of a certain age." This will be the final hockey season and final Stanley Cup playoffs broadcast by the CBC. Starting next year, Rogers Communications owns the exclusive franchise and hockey will no longer appear on the CBC but on Rogers' own sports channels. Over the years, the Conservative government has eroded CBC's funding so badly that our public broadcaster could no longer afford to keep the broadcast rights. It's the passing of an era and I regret seeing the end of CBC's iconic role.

NHL hockey and the CBC have been synonymous in Canada since the 1950s. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of watching hockey on our grainy little black-and-white TV every Saturday night. Followed right after the game, of course, by the musical stylings of "your pet, Juliette" -- now that really dates me, LOL!

Going Straight

"Never!!!" is indeed a good and proper response when a passenger in your car gives you directions to "go straight" -- but there's a better one, LOL! As a baby dyke, I was taught that the correct response is to always say:

"No! I only go GAILY FORWARD, never straight!"

Hateful Christians

Unfortunately, there are still plenty of hateful Christians to go around, aren't there? However, as the moral authority of Christianity continues to erode through the Church's own abusive actions towards women, children and the LGBT community, let's hope that they will increasingly be replaced by Christians who are prepared to practice love, equality and tolerance in the 21st century.

Loving Christians

There are getting to be more and more GLBT-loving and -accepting Christians all the time. More power to them and may their numbers increase steadily!

I bet you they read the Queen James Version of the Bible!

Seriously, it's a real Bible and you can buy it on Amazon.com by clicking here.

Tomorrow: Hateful Christians (unfortunately a much longer post)

A Wonderful Summer Read -- Avalon

If you love cats (and who doesn't?), then I know you'll enjoy reading Vanessa Morgan's new book, just published last week! Vanessa is the creator of the Traveling Cats blog and posts at her own personal blog as well.

Avalon is the story of an extraordinary Turkish Van cat who lived with her in Europe, caused untold mayhem among boyfriends and veterinarians, gave unending love and support to Vanessa, served as Muse to her screenwriting career and also starred in some movies along the way. It's a terrific read and I know you'll enjoy it -- I certainly did! And isn't that cover art amazing?

Avalon is available in Kindle format to American readers for under $4 at Amazon.com (click here) and to Canadian readers for under $5 at Amazon.ca (click here). If you need a European Amazon link to the book, see the list of links at Vanessa's blog (click here).
