However, Premier Danielle Smith and her United Conservative Party
did get an across-the-board "yes" response on the other nine questions,
although results for some questions were pretty evenly divided.
So this essentially echoes my own projected expectations
set out in my post about the referendum issues on Monday.
Well, now all THAT hoopla is over, time to get back
to our day-to-day resistance and protest against
right-wing Maple MAGA nonsense . . .
AS USUAL!

Resist! Resist!
A bit of a strange referendum if you ask me: a referendum on the possibility of doing another referendum, plus a number of other questions. Sounds more like a glorified survey. Surely, a referendum should be on a specific project or endeavour. Regardless of your position on the issue, it should be about an issue. There's an expression in French, "noyer le poisson". I think that's what premier Danielle Smith just did.
@ Guillaume -- Yes, you're right. This was a taxpayer-funded $130 million dollar public opinion poll conducted by Premier Danielle Smith to try to control internal divisions within her governing party so she could stay in power. Her right-wing Maple MAGA caucus, many of whom are separatists, may yet dump her as leader. We'll see!
Danielle Smith has been hoisted on her own petard, somewhat, it seems to me. When she led the Wild Rose party she clearly had separatist leanings, and she is now going to face serious challenges from those in her party, in her cabinet even, who still harbour those sentiments. The NDP must be gleeful about their chances in the election next year.
I did read the good and bad news this morning. I’m relieved you won out on the major issue but it sure would be nice to see the Maple MAGAs, and all those like them around the world, lose their standing in everything.
Ugh
They’ll keep pushing, right?
XOXO
I'm glad to see good sense ruled over the MAGAness. I hope it does in the US in a couple of weeks too.
The good sense of Albertans clearly won the day. I'm not surprised, but I'm interested in hearing the backstory you explain. Aha! Just really an internal move, not really about separating. I shoulda guessed.
Maybe when we finally beat MAGA into the ground here it will lose its luster elsewhere.
The Maple MAGAs are definitely not sweet, natural and delicious! I hope that whole reactionary tide ebbs worldwide.
I just hope 🙏 we all stay united here in Canada 🇨🇦 all provinces and territories.
So please to see that 75%. Although it takes a lot for magats to get the message.
Thank the Goddess!
So glad that's over with. Yes, now it's time to get back to the effin reality of maga.
75% ain't bad!!!
I wish we'd see our MAGAts get crushed as decisively as your version was.
I had heard from a CA visitor down here about the Alberta push for independence. I thought: WHA?! Like, where are you gonna go, pal? 75% is a fairly decisive 'NO', fortunately.
Glad the majority saw sense - I wouldn't wish what we've gone through on anyone.
