Writers Gotta Write

I know that many bloggers
LOVE to write and are authors of
novels, short stories, memoirs and poetry!

I applaud you all!

Say, are any of you
participating in this month's
NaNoWriMo?

If so, good luck with your novel writing!

Writing can be very, very hard, can't it?
There are so many issues involved
in the writing process --

THINGS WHICH MAKE WRITERS ANXIOUS:

  • not writing
  • writing
  • people reading their stories
  • people not reading their stories

  • Editing
  • Not editing
 cassmorriswrites

  • Not having any good ideas
  • Having too many ideas and not being able to decide which to write
  • Having one really good idea and worrying they’re not a good enough writer for the idea

  • Not having the time to write
  • Having the time to write

Yeah.

And be careful not to fall prey
to stereotypes about writers!

The question which
every writer must determine is:
what makes for good writing?

I wanted to be a writer when I was a kid.
My first short story was essentially a fanfic
based on the Arthurian Legends.

But alas, adult life and career demands intervened.

I did write as part of my career,
but only technical, specialized writing
like government reports and legislation.

And now I find I lack the imagination
to create fictional characters and plots.

So I'm depending on all of YOU
to keep me amused with your
creative writing!

I know you won't let me down!

Slug Lifestyle Update

Readers may remember that at the end of April, I resolved to get off my ass and take a daily walk around the block.

How did THAT go?

Well, I managed to do it for about a month or so. Then excuses started popping up like endless dandelions about why I couldn't do it on any given day.

But it was summer time by then, and so I was just naturally more active anyway, getting out and about, going places. Therefore, I didn't worry too much about slacking off on those walks.

And finally in September, I got some good news about my tai chi group, which had ceased operation a year and a half ago due to the pandemic.

Although the group no longer meets in person every morning at the mall, our leader has now taken it online instead so we can do our routines via Zoom in the comfort of our own homes! I am thrilled to be back in the swing of all things tai chi!

I thought I had forgotten absolutely everything I knew about the moves, but a lot of it has come back now simply through muscle memory and prodding the rusty old memory banks.

An added bonus to online tai chi is that now I no longer have the half hour drive each way to the mall and back. Sweet! That alone saves me an hour per day!

Remembrance Day

[first female Canadian soldier
killed in combat]

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Christians, Avert Thine Eyes

. . . unless, like me, you think Jesus has a sense of humour
and enjoys a good joke as much as the next guy,
even if it's at his own expense.

Fashion & Style Tips

Hello, my ADORING fans 'n stans!

Yes, it is I,
HER ROYAL HIGHNESS THE CAT,
gracing you with my presence yet again.

Last week, Mistress Maddie of
wrote a GLOWING post about Anna Wintour of
Vogue magazine fame.

Now, I love you DEARLY, Maddie
(*smoochies, dahling*)
but DON'T mention
Anna Wintour to ME!

I taught that UNGRATEFUL BITCH
EVERYTHING she knows about fashion and
NOW she pretends not to KNOW me.

Alas, so MANY celebrities could BENEFIT
from my fashion advice, IF ONLY
they would take it!

One of my BEST TIPS is to
make sure your SHOES
are as fashionable as
your OUTFIT.

Because I ADORE you all so much,
I'll give you that tip for FREE today,
as a special onetime BONUS!

My BIGGEST cross to bear in this life
is my FRUMPY HUMAN
whose idea of classy attire is
JEANS and a T-SHIRT.

But at least she doesn't wear CROCS.

On the other hand, she can be
guilty of WORSE fashion faux pas.

Her hair and eyebrows are ALWAYS
a HIDEOUS MESS because she refuses
to spend any serious cash on
GLAMMING HERSELF UP.

Even back in the days
when she DID dress up,
her look was (*yawn*)
soooo STODGY and DULL.

She must be my
KARMIC PUNISHMENT
for sins committed in my
previous nine lives.

WHO SAYS HELL DOESN'T EXIST?

Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "The Workshop"

For Rain's Art Date theme this week,
I have reached back, back, BACK
into the mists of time and retrieved
a drawing I did in 1972 when I was 15.

It depicts a 16th century carpenter
in his workshop, making or repairing
the stock of a wooden crossbow.

The original art on which my drawing was based
is by an illustrator named Paul V. Lantz.
Here's his original which, as you can see,
had another character in it who I omitted --

This art illustrated a story called "The Secret Trap"
by Jack M. MacLeod in his 1959 book
Theirs Is The Kingdom.
Aimed at teens, this book
recounted tales of Christian heroes
who put their faith into action over the centuries.

For some reason, my older brother
had been given a copy of this book,
along with its two companion volumes
retelling stories from the
Old and New Testaments.

I can only assume it was a Sunday School
prize or gift or something. I can't imagine
my parents shelling out money for the series.

"The Secret Trap" concerned a carpenter who,
along with some buddies, staged a fake kidnapping
of Martin Luther in 1521 when Luther was on the run
from the Catholic Church as an excommunicated heretic.

The seizure actually occurred
at the behest of Prince Frederick III,
who then hid Luther in safety
from his enemies for over a year at
Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Saxony.
