Nativity Scenes For Modern Times

And to all of you
from all of us here in Canada --
Merry Christmas, eh?

I'll Be Gnome For Christmas

I'm sure you all remember my gnome

FEARSOME THE FIERCE

Official Guardian of the
Big Basket of Cushions.

And I'm sure you also all remember

TEERLINCK THE TENACIOUS

Official Advisor Concerning
All Puzzles, Games and Mysteries.

Well, unbeknownst to anyone,
it turns out that Teerlinck
has a younger brother named

HENGIST THE HAIRY.

Hengist unexpectedly showed up
at my door last week and has
taken quite a shine to Fearsome.

QUITE A SHINE INDEED!

Now they're snuggled up together
in the big basket of cushions,
where Hengist has been appointed

Official Guardian of the
Portable AM/FM Radio

(which, curiously enough, only gets
good reception in that exact spot.)

I'm sure the boys will live
happily ever after!

Hey, maybe I should call
the Hallmark Channel
and pitch this as a new
Holiday Romance Movie!

Aren't they always looking
for more diversity?
They could use some!

I got the title for today's post
from this adorable tote bag
just sent to me by blogging buddy
Shirley of BootsandBraids.

Thanks, Shirley! You rock!

Lawyer Jokes

No one loves lawyer jokes
more than actual lawyers.

We positively revel in how much
people hate and misunderstand us.

Yup, that's just how we roll!

Sometimes specialization gets a little TOO specialized.  But I bet he ends up with a huge nest egg while his clients have to settle for chicken feed.

And remember,
judges are lawyers too!

I dedicate this post to The Blog Tech, who is
the son of blogging buddy Joyce (Octoberfarm).
He is currently in law school, so I'm sure
he's familiar with this classic summary
of that experience --

"In First Year Law, they scare you to death;
in Second Year Law, they work you to death; and
in Third Year Law, they bore you to death."

Have fun and enjoy the ride!

Whimsical Creatures

Last month, for the first time since the pandemic started, I took an in-person art class called "Drawing Whimsical Creatures in Ink and Watercolour." Every participant had to be double-vaxxed, masked and socially distanced so it was as safe as it could be.

The required level of artistic ability was not demanding, so the class was more goofy fun than hard work. The whimsical creatures were all quite cartoonish in nature and quick to do. They are ideally suited for making and illustrating greeting cards for various occasions.

Because the critters are meant to be whimsical, they actually look better when painted in bright unrealistic colours, rather than trying to reflect an animal's natural colour scheme (those results look boring, for the most part).

I've amalgamated some of my best results to show you --

Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "Gingerbread"

I'm going the meme route again
with this week's Art Date Theme
by Rain Frances --

Whaddya mean, I'm a lazy SOB
for posting memes instead of
my own artwork?

You wound me.

The great thing about gingerbread houses
is that they can be as simple or as complex
as you want to make them!

Okay, okay, you've shamed me into sharing
old photos of some of the gingerbread houses
which My Rare One and I have made
together over the years --

I've never tried to make gingerbread cookies,
but if I did, I'd want them to look
as spectacular and delicious as RuPaul
in her gingerbread drag --

Oh, thought I couldn't work
superheroes into this post?

Think again!
