A Kiss for the Swiss

One hundred years ago in 1924,
my maternal grandparents arrived in Canada
as immigrants from Switzerland.

To mark this centennial, I've decided to
pay a humorous homage to my Swiss heritage --

Pretend that being landlocked
doesn't prevent Switzerland
from having sea creatures --

And let's not forget
Switzerland's national hero,
William Tell!

These are wonderful! The Swiss army knife of posts. Congratulations on your heritage.

Well, these are mostly Swiss cheesy but the Swiss lobster ... LOL
So good to have you back and in top form!

Nice!

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Paracelsus (Jim) -- Good one, lol! Yes, my post needs more memes about chocolate, and cuckoo clocks too.

Frank said...

WHAT? NO CHEESE? And what is that under the psychiaknife's chair?

Jamie Ghione said...

These are great! I really like the apple eye chart one.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Frank -- D'oh! You're absolutely right -- how could I have missed cheese from my list of overlooked stereotypes? I think that's a fish under the shrink's chair -- Bizarro always puts weird things in the corners and margins of his cartoons.

Those are cute and funny! Have you been to Switzerland to see where your relatives lived?

Adam said...

Now people would pay to move to Switzerland

i laughed at these a lot harder than i should have!

Pixie said...

Thanks for the laughs. I had no idea that William Tell was Swiss or that he sparked a revolution in Switzerland. My ignorance of history is quite vast at times:)

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Ellen D -- Alas, no, I've never made it to Switzerland. Various relatives in my extended family have been, though, including my grandmother who returned to visit her homeland and siblings several times. Two of her sisters came to visit her in Canada in the 1970s, so I met them when I was a teenager.

Well, Frank, there are always extras in Bizzaro cartoons. There's a fish under the chair, a piece of pie under the couch, a lit stick of dynamite on the medical degree, and a tiny alien next to the word bubble! In the apple eye chart cartoon, there's an alien lookin' up the optometrist's butt! 👽🤣

"for whom the Tells bowled" ... groan, I should have seen that coming, and a big thanks to your maternals for all the lovely chocolates.

They’re all so funny and very very clever.

These all left a smile on my face. Nice post, kiddo.

Long before we had apps on out cell phones, the Swiss had them on their knives.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Kirk -- That's a cool and imaginative way of looking at it!

I think "For Whom The Tells Bowled" should be nominated for Dad Joke Of The Year.

You are so talented to put these memes into a Swiss theme

What a great collection. My elderly neighbour age 88 this year, was born in Switzerland and told me stories of living up on a mountain where her parents ran a hotel.

If I were Swiss Arthur, I would have seen those “swords” in the stone and kept on walking. (Although I already know about Guinevere, Lancelot, Morgan le Fay, and Mordred.

For whom the Tells bowled ... LOLOL

I lived in Switzerland way back in the year 2000. I can tell you some interesting things about the Swiss like they are very clean and like to vacuum their train tracks. They are also fond of fondue! They all speak multiple languages. It is a stunning country and you should go there.

Lol, very funny. Switzerland is possibly the most beautiful country on earth. Thanks for sharing.

Again lots of good ones. Love the Tells bowled and the little crab, and that is some serious polkaing!

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ The Blog Fodder -- No, I can't yodel. I had an uncle who could yodel a bit. The only "Swiss" thing I can do is eat lots of chocolate!

All very funny.

Janie Junebug said...

For whom the Tells bowled? Oh, my! Who doesn't fear the yodel?

Lots of fun, Debra! I had a good laugh from the Swiss knife on the couch and a groan over the Tells bowled!

Rommy said...

For who the Tells bowled made me groan, then laugh.

Loved them all!
Did you know that Swiss women didn't get the right to vote until the 1970's? I grew up with some Swiss ex-pat kids and the girls were justifiably outraged by that.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ e -- Yes, I did know that and was equally outraged by it! Switzerland is a conservative place but that was just ridiculous!
