The Centrality of Empathy

If someone has empathy, they can overcome
their prejudice and hatred based on ignorance
by unlearning it and adopting new views --

However, you cannot do this if you lack
the necessary empathy in the first place.
It's why the very concept of empathy is
always attacked by the extremist right --

Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "Twisted"

I'm linking this post
to Rain's prompt today
as my "twisted" tribute to . . .

ARTISTS and ANGST!

Enjoy!

Did you know Steve Rogers
was an artist before he was
Captain America?

Like a true artist, he's still
full of frustrated artistic angst.

Let's leave the last word on
artists and angst to that expert,
Henri Le Chat Noir --

Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "Library of Recent Art"

I'm taking liberties today with Rain's art prompt of "library" so that I can show you some of my recent artworks which don't otherwise fit that theme.

A course last month called Birds in Watercolour Pencil resulted in only a couple of decent efforts worth posting. Here they are --

Western Tanager

Brown Pelican

And then there's this deathless work of beauty and genius --

Angry Hummingbird
Giving Evil Eye
To Entire World

I've just started a new course called Drawing Wildlife in Graphite. This is our first animal, which turned out well enough.

Bobcat

Two recent workshops involving coloured pencils also resulted in a couple of efforts that I'm happy with --

Lotus / Waterlily
(although I regret the
badly rendered background)

Red Fox on a Snowy Day
(I'm very pleased with this one!)

Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts

It was Ulysses/Odysseus,
the cleverest of all Greeks,
who devised the
Trojan Horse strategy,
so here's a couple of
LOLs in his honour --

And who says the old myths
about Troy aren't relevant anymore?
