This Year's Halloween Costume Reveal!

"The Bug-Eyed Creature from the Cataracts Lagoon" --

So I had my cataracts surgery a week ago. Thanks for all your well wishes on my last post!

Because the surgery was done under general anesthetic, the doctor did both eyes at the same time. I had to wear these plastic eye shields for the first day and then every night while sleeping for the next week. This lovely post-op photo was taken by The Rare One, who picked me up at the hospital, took me later that day for my follow-up at the doctor's office, and stayed overnight on the post-anesthetic 24 hour stroke watch.

Everything went well. Now I'm on the multiple-eye-drops-per-day regime for one month. For my eyes, the doctor did not recommend the upgraded lens that would correct my astigmatism in addition to my distance vision, so I will still need new prescription glasses to see properly once all is said and done. I'll have them by the end of November and will be able to drive again then.

This means my vision remains blurry, it's challenging for me to read or type for any length of time, and I'm subject to eye strain if I'm on the computer too long. I'm hoping to manage two or three posts per week to celebrate Halloween this month, but reading and commenting on others' blogs will still be very limited, alas. But I'll drop in when and if I'm able.

You look lovely! Can you get those with rims in different colors? A great style for your prescription. I had my eyes done at different times, but I remember my vision coming back (better) surprisingly quickly. So glad you had it done and are now in recovery mode. And thanks for sharing this glorious photo. At least you smiled a little, but too bad you “blinked” when the shutter clicked...

Welcome back! I'm surprised they did both at once, but it shortens the time nicely. I'm also very happy R O stepped up. That was nice.

Excellent costume! I'm happy to see you. I had my eyes checked today. The dr said I have little baby cataracts on both of my eyes. I wish they'd grow up and move out.

You made it through and you are smiling. I had mine done one eye at a time a week apart. I wish I had chosen the new astigmatism lenses but I didn't know about them and when I did I thought they might be too expensive. You'll be seeing as well as ever again in no time.

So glad you're back and on the road to recovery. Thanks for dropping in on my blog and hope your return to full vision is swift.

Welcome back! Glad everything's gone well. I have said that if I need cataract surgery they will have to knock me out: I fainted in an eye test.

So how's it been sleeping with those bug-eye protectors?

@ BSB -- They are surprisingly comfortable to sleep in, although they do look like hell.

FANTASTIC, and all the best for a speedy recovery... however once you see all the crap that has hit, you may want to put the eye shields back in...

The smile on your face suggests that your were on some kind of acid trip Debra! How brave of you to have both eyes done at once. Wishing you a speedy and successful recovery.

angela said...

I didn’t think they did both eyes at once for cataracts. I think it’s a better option if you can choose that. Once your over this operation it’s done and dusted.
Make sure to follow the doctors orders and come back when you can.

Bugged-eyed! Too cute. I'm glad this is behind you, and wishing you swift healing. I'd never heard of them doing both eyes at the same time.

I'm glad the Rare One was there to help you, Debra! I don't envy you the drops routine. That's what I disliked the most. I couldn't get the upgraded lenses either, but the prescription glass worked fine. Here's to wishing you a speedy and full recovery! Take care!
