Oh dear, I have missed the eleventh hour today. I usually walk up to our closest war memorial with a stone on which I have written something... "In Remembrance" or "Thank You" or "Lest We Forget"... but I did forget as your post has suddenly reminded me.
I always remember my dad today, and how horrible that war was for him and for all those who fight in wars. Taking the life of another is a heavy burden to carry for the rest of your life. RIP dad.
When I went to bed last night I knew that today was Veteran's Day, but this morning I didn't remember until I read your post. Thank you for the reminder.
🤔 For history's sake, it might interest you to know that the phrase "lest we forget" isn't always positive for everyone. My Grammy (the one I was nostalgic for here yesterday because of her amazing embroidery, quilting and crocheting skills), made me despise "lest we forget." She was a lifelong member of United Daughters of the Confederacy and forced all her grandchildren into Children of the Confederacy! Every meeting, every communication ended with a solemn salute "lest we forget, lest we forget." Which, of course, meant more than honoring the Confederate dead. It was to keep alive the cause that was not the "Lost Cause." It was co-opted to remind us that the South would rise again the next time the Federal government started a "War Between the States" and woe be to anyone who dare call it the Civil War!! 🤬🤬 Can you tell I am still disturbed and disgusted by people who want to keep alive the propaganda that got soldiers killed for the Confederacy in the first place?!! 🤨 Just adding it to Big Book of Misused and Abused Phrases. Sigh! 🥺
This morning I emailed my uncle and aunt who both served; different roles in different wars, but still... My flag is out on the front porch. It may be tarnished but it still stands for something.
The Government of Canada's ad to honour veterans and peace keepers is very moving and timely. We owe a great debt to those who fought and died so we could have the democratic freedoms of today. Lest We Forget.
When Favorite Young Man was a senior in high school, a recruiter called our home repeatedly -- always when he was at basketball practice or playing with his band. I finally said, Believe me, you don't want him. He's a non-conformist. The recruiter asked if I was proud of that. Yes, I was.
I always think of my Great Great Uncle Willis who died in Flanders during the Great War. I am determined his sacrifice will never be forgotten. My late grandad carried his name (as a middle name) as does Atreus, my grandson.
This might not really be related but sorta reminds me of it. I've been doing dishes and listening to videos/youtube about anti-mlm contents and it's interesting the cult like thing some of these girls get into. And at the end of the year, make very little money. Anyway, I guess "they" learned the cult leaders of the MLMS that if god is tied to the mlm, women stay longer.
I dunno. I found that interesting because the lower workers barely make any money but yet stay and even more so if the MLM is tied to religion.
Sorry for the side track. Just popped into my head.
