Hey everyone!
I have a NEW hockey hero --
Devin Cooley of the Calgary Flames!
No, he is NOT a Long-Haired Hockey God,
but he DOES have . . .
a mini lop rabbit named Tito!
Recently, Devin brought Tito
to Calgary's Saddledome Arena
for a photo shoot!
(Tito already has his own Instagram page
run by Cooley and his fiancée, so
he is no stranger to modelling).
Now, I love bunnies and rabbits at the best of times,
of course, but this story has extra-special significance.
To see a professional hockey player
who is not afraid to basically say "eff you"
to toxic macho hockey culture is so refreshing,
it gives me hope for the future.
There has been plenty of eye-rolling in certain quarters
among certain players, but the NHL must be clamping
down hard on anything that publicly smacks too much
of overt scorn or ignorant bashing based on what
perceived "correct" gender behaviour should be.
The only meme I could find commenting on the situation
is a pretty innocuous one which simply
refers to Tito as Devin's "bounce coach."
(Bounce skills training is done by goalies to
improve their control of the unpredictable
bounces and rebounds of pucks).
