What I DIDN'T do on holiday

Tattooing is a huge part of traditional Hawaiian / Polynesian culture. We saw so many fabulous tattoos while we were in Maui! In Honolulu where Disney recently built a fabulous new resort hotel, the powerful Mouse Corporation had to relax its otherwise unbending prohibition on employees with tattoos or else it would not have been able to hire staff.

Tattoo parlours are everywhere, of course. I love this beautiful, if narrow, laneway entrance to one in upcountry Maui (in the town of Pa'ia, if memory serves correctly).

But I did not succumb to the lure of ink. My pasty white Canadian hide remains unmarked.

Ha! Funny! When we were in Hawaii last year, I spent two weeks admiring and talking about everyone's amazing tattoo art, saying I was gonna get one before coming home to Alberta winter, and then yes I wimped out and did not do it... still not sure if was the right decision. I am a total wimp~!

No need to get ink done just because it's there!

Happy Thanksgiving!

my daughter has a beautiful tattoo that looks like a necklace,, its not really small either and then a large one on her calf, they are beautiful and I wish I had did this in my youger years, I'm too chicken now. It must have been very tempting for sure, maybe next time eh, (had to throw the eh in there) first time I have written eh since I started blogging!
( pardon me , my Canadian is showing, lol).

CHICKEN!!! You know a delicate, discreet symbol would 'go' very well with that white Canadian look! How about a tiny labyrinth? lol
Hey, if this white skin of mine can do it (and it does hurt, but yes I am a male afterall), than you can too.

Wow, Debra, what a change from the snowy Canadian winds blowing to the warm lovely weather of Maui. I've always wanted to visit the islands but as of yet, have not really had an opportunity. (It would help if I wasn't so terrified of flying...lol- I hear swimming takes a while)

I'm with you on leaving my hide ink free. I've seen some lovely tattoos but the thought of having to live with that one design all the rest of my days makes me hesitate... not to mention the pain. I'm no brave one when it comes to that sort of thing.

So happy you had such a great time of it and didn't get sunburned.

Bright blessings,
Bird
And I am most definitely saving room for pie today. ;-)

you should get a dot..one little tiny dot. and then go around making profound statements and then point to the dot and say..period.

Wow, you are so disciplined. After a few pina coladas at the pool bar, the likelihood of a tattoo on my pale Canadian skin would have been very high!
