Moose and Squirrel

Are you old enough to remember The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show? I loved Rocky and Bullwinkle when I was a kid. The show was a product of its times though, as evidenced by Boris and Natasha, the Cold War Soviet spies constantly being thwarted by Our Heroes.

Once the Cold War ended, whatever happened to Rocky and Bullwinkle?

It seems that someone in Russia is still keeping tabs on them.

Because of this new danger, I think Rocky and Bullwinkle have gone underground, emerging only occasionally to leave coded signals of their ongoing presence amongst us.

Yes, *great big sigh* I remember those days. I remember Natasha saying in her heavy Slavic accent "Big trouble for Moose and Squirrel"

There was also a show that was late at night that was called "Fractured Flickers". They took silent films and added their own dialog. It was funny as hell. Man! Those were the days!

That was an excellent toon. I liked that along with Spy vs Spy. Oh how I miss the Cold War, it was so uncomplicated.

The skewered artwork and humor that was Jay Ward.

Now I got that screwy theme song rambling through my brain.

Thanks. :D

We don't have squirrels here.
The only moose are chocolate mousses.
I don't remember Rocky and Bullwinkle. My dad was the original television nazi. Very little tv was watched. Explains my obsession with movies and TV now i guess. x

I rarely watched the show... for some reason they completely annoyed me. I guess Popeye and Olive Oyl were more my speed. LOL

moose are such cool animals

Oh, what fun! I haven't thought of that show in years... It's making me think of all kinds of shows I used to watch... Bugs Bunny and Popeye being the ones that readily come to mind. Ahhhh, those were the times... xo Silke

For some reason, they only showed Rocky and Bullwinkle at 5 am in my area when I was a kid... so I got up every morning at 4:45 to be prepared for that. Drove my mom nuts. Never missed an episode, though.

hahaha I remember when they had R&B socks on the show "Friends" she gave Chandler 1 pair of Rocky and 1 pair of Bullwinkle, and said he could mix it up and wear one moose and one squirrel. I searched for those socks, but never found them.

I was going to say that I've never heard of Rocky and Bullwinkle because I'm so young, but we all know that's a lie. :)

Excellent cartoon. Always loved the way Natasha picked on Boris...hmmmm that may explain alot of things in my life. Moose and Squirrel are indeed a great choice. I also liked Quick Draw McGraw and Babalooee. Happy Monday. Oma Linda

Seems that this time of year, it's a rare day when I DON"T see a moose or a squirrel. It always makes me think of that show.

Also, I can distinctly remember finally making the connection that Rocky was a flying squirrel and that there are really flying squirrels. One of my crowning intellectual discoveries as a child! :)

You know I love them!! I did a post a few months ago and found out that Bullwinkle was from Frostbite Falls, Minnesota. Sadly Bullwinkle like most of our real moose have disappeared from Minnesota.

Thanks for the fond memories!I loved how Bullwinkle could never pull a rabbit out of that hat!

I loved that show! And, when I was living for a month in St. Petersburg, I had to not laugh out loud the first week I was there, because all I could hear was, "Ver ist Moose and Squillel?!" over and over in my head! I loved Russia....loved it.

One of my favorite cartoons growing up. Cartoons are just not the same these days.

I loved all the cartoons when I was a kid including Rocky and Bullwinkle. They did come out with the Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle movie in 2000 but it was a huge flop. Hard to duplicate the charm of the original.

Haha! Love this! Rocky and Bullwinkle were great!!! New Hampshire has the best vanity plates. Since I live on the border I get to enjoy them on a daily basis.

Hahaha...cute! I love that license plate. Well, you know, I think rocky may be hanging out in my garden from time to time. A real troublemaker, but an awfully cute one :)

Tell me that plate is real!! My late godfather, had he been a cartoon, would have been Boris, no joke.

Loved that show. "Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat." "Again?"...Thanks for the fun memories. They sure don't make cartoons like they used to.

Boris and Natasha were awesome. But then as a kid it made me never take the cold war seriously since I figured all Russians were like them.

Ahhh yes... I do remember. Oh my goodness, seems like another lifetime ago.

Great post.. perhaps Whistleblowing Wombles of Wimbledon Common may suit the times now!.. did you get the Wombles there?

That license plate is the second best moose & squirrel joke in the history of moose and squirrel jokes.

The best was on an episode of Will & Grace when Karen says to Grace "what's up with your hair? You look like you've got mousse AND squirrel in there." or swords to that effect. Of course it's way better when Megan Mulalley says it.

Ha! That license plate is awesome.

I had a major crush on Rocky ... hey I was a kid.

Hey Rocky! Gosh Bullwinkle. Yes, I remember that show very well. I also took my then young son to the movie version.

Thanks and now I'm thinking about Tennessee Tuxedo and yes the voice of Don Adams aka Maxwell Smart :)

Yup....I am OLD enough!
We actually saw it the other night at the cottage...we get really weird channels out there from time to time...but...I must say...it didn't seem half as funny as it did back then!
I do remember "Fractured Fairy Tales"...that was hilarious!

Enjoy your week....
Cheers!
Linda :o)

I have a confession, I've never heard of them. Maybe they weren't big in the UK?

Kay G. said...

Are you kidding me? I LOVED Rocky & Bullwinkle! And when I hear a woman speak with a Russian accent, I have to smile, since it sounds like someone imitating Natasha to me! HA!
My favorite...Fractured Fairy Tales, oh my, they were so good and so FUNNY!
Thanks for reminding me of something from my childhood that I truly enjoyed. ;-)
