One thing, my siblings teased me like crazy when we first saw the Chinese calendar at a Chinese restaurant when we were kids, it didn't say, "rooster", it said, "cock". My Chinese exchange students were always so tickled with the gold coin candy I gave them. I have searing memories of cooking a traditional New Year's recipe straight outta China. The house smelled terrible, but the student was transformed. She wafted the scent into her nostrils! Culture.
