Who DOESN'T Love Drag Queens?

I KNOW I DO!

And what BETTER way to celebrate fierce queens than with this video of my fave Ginger Minj's barnburner rendition of "I Am What I Am" from the musical La Cage Aux Folles? No lip syncing here, that's her real voice! Filmed at the 2016 Trailblazer Honors Gala, this was performed in tribute to Harvey Fierstein (seen in various tearful reaction shots throughout the video). He starred in the original Broadway production of that musical and is one of our community's most enduring stars and activists.

Great rainbow flag motif too from the combined colours of the queens' dresses -- Ginger Minj (red), Alyssa Edwards (yellow), Alaska Thunderfuck (blue), Phi Phi O'Hara (green) and Tatianna (purple).

But wait, there's more! . . . Introducing the latest American drag sensation . . .

Drag Queens? Yes, please!

Honestly, Ginger gave me a little tear. I'm surprised Harvey wasn't crying!

Did you follow the early work of Brandon Stanton and Humans of New York? Heart wrenching. I think of the people of some of the stories he wrote, and wonder. It was only 17 years ago. But, some of the queens were sick.

I never really understood the appeal to be honest. I will say they often do scare the shit of straight people especially pre-2000's which didn't do much to help the LGBT community on gaining straight allies

@ Joanne Noragon -- No, I don't follow that website but I think I'll start now! Thanks for the tip!

Um, Deb ... have to admit that self retains testicles and penis - and probably more testosterone than is legal these days --
Once upon a time - was involved with a small Theatre in Adelaide (a sort of mini 'off Broadway' ).
And we hosted the Sydney "Les Girls". At Festival time 1960's?? Whether it makes sense or not - i 'loved them'. Absolute lovely people, and brilliant performers.

I don't seen enough of these beauties around here. Though, our valley's Pride celebration is in August so I'll be there to cheer and perhaps catch some fabulous queens!

I'd like to look as good as a drag queen (I am not good at doing hair or makeup or choosing clothes), except for that icky Sharon Secrets.

Love,

Love drag queens! In fact, I have such problems finding shoes that fit me in regular stores, I'm thinking of buying them from drag queen specialty stores, or wherever it is Shaquille O'Neil buys his shoes.

Nice post Debra :) I've only seen a drag queen in person when I was very young and then only on tv/movies. I think if a drag queen strolled the streets of northern Quebec, the people would faint in disbelief.

What a voice Ginger Minj has, Debra! I embarrassed to say that a gay friend a lifetime ago took me to see a show in Vegas. I had no idea until the headliner took off her wig at the end, that she was a he! Duh! I was so green, and she had bet my first husband that I would be shocked at the end. And, of course, it had to be Las Vegas's most famous female impersonator, Frank Marino in Evening at La Cage at the Riviera. My friend won the bet, much to her delight!
