Happy Australia Day!
Sparing no expense, today this blog is celebrating the National Day of Australia!
This year, there's even more reason to celebrate because Australia has just recently recognized the right to same-sex marriage -- yay!
One insufficiently appreciated fact about Australia is that it is a world leader in engine, vehicle and fuel technology --
Of course, we all know about the weird and wonderful animals that are found only Down Under!
How did they get there?
There's the platypus, of course. It's a little-known fact that Canada's national symbol had a hand (or some other body part) in its creation. You're welcome, our Commonwealth cousins!
And Australia is just full of crocs, we all know that!
Kangaroos are, of course, everywhere too!
They cause mayhem on the roads. Kind of like moose in Canada.
And who doesn't love those cute 'n adorable koala bears?
Uh-oh, another misconception shattered?
Oh no, could koalas be co-opted for the purpose of evil?
Luckily, getting koalas to actually do anything might be a bit of a problem. Duuuuuude!
Perpetually smashed? Let's all move to Australia and join them!

I just read the last koala statement to my spouse. he said "I don't see anything wrong with that."
g'day bruces & sheilas!
oh my gosh you made me laugh so hard,,,excellent, Happy Australia day to you!
... and happy Australia Day to you too, friend Seeking D ... Love, cat,
LOL- What a FUN post. I have friends that live in Australia...too funny!!! xo Diana
I don't know a thing about Australia except that it seems like I've always had a few bands I've liked from there.
The animals are weird and cute and counter-intuitive but... Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds? The Drones? C'mon... It's all about the music.
The insurance bit about "Q: Who was at fault? A: The kangaroo" made me laugh.
The platypus one is priceless ...cuz it's true!
Hooray for Australia! Such a unique place...so many deadly animals! Love the article about the military vehicle! Sounds like something that would happen in the U.S.
OMG!!!
AAHahahahaaahahahaaahahahaaa!!! I think I peed myself silly on this one. Yep, I did. That was a great blog post, woman. Thanks for the laughs.
I do wonder how the lab/kangaroo standoff ended. Kangaroos are bigger than cars and dogs, it seems.
To Harry Hamid....I must be older than you.
Little River Band, Midnight Oil, INXS and Crowded House
Love me some Australian music.
Happy Australia Day everyone!
I don't know how they survive on their own, they're so slow and inactive
The platypus and ducks one is the best!
Cause of accident: Mr. Roo. I wonder if the insurance adjuster had to get statements from Mr. Roo's friends.
I'm still roaring at the platypus origin story. Bwahahaha!
I have always seen your comments on other blogs (especially Rosemary's), but I never knew you had this great blog of your own that I was missing!

Great post!
And yeah, you're welcome for the beaver coupling.
Australia is definitely different. I want to make a trip someday. The Koalas sure are fierce looking when wet!
Love the platypus cartoon. I was thinking Noah's Ark wasn't as saintly as it was cracked up to be!
How did Buffalo end up with those lion manes?
Surname: Mr Roo.
Winner!
too funny! that last koala looks like 'the dude'!
LOL! Great post...I have heard about spiders that hide under toilet seats and big ones behind picture frames. I want to visit there someday but I also don't ever want to go there.
Oh, Australia, you gave us many a hot hunk over the years, my current fave would be Daniel MacPherson, Kyle Pryor and Chris Hunksworth, but the list is neverending... and often features in my dreams
Well of course the best thing about Australia as far as I'm concerned is Kylie Minogue!
Lol. Love the continent/country and its fun loving people!
OMG Debra, I just laughed so hard at the first photo because I'm a Simpsons fan and as you know lately we've been obsessed with buying those Australian "Akubra Outback" hats....I always joke that we will have to pay in "dollareedoos"...the way the Simpsons poke fun at that Aussie currency. Thanks for the laugh!
HAHAHA! OMG, I am sitting here shaking with laughter. Thank you!
BAHAHAHA! The launching the rocket into space... That had me laughing out loud. I wonder how many people will actually believe that? :)
These were hilarious!
OMG....haven't laughed so hard in awhile......thanks!
Wow, Koalas sure look a little less friendly when wet - kinda like a gremlin...
That's why koalas are so endearing? Who knew? Not I.
Cheers to the land down under.
Australia, birth place of my hall pass - Kylie Minogue.
Love the Koalas and the rocket launch..Thanks for the laughs..can always count on you...Hope you are having a good weekend..
The rocket launch cracked me up, more so because it looks like 1950s art and typeface.
Good stuff! Enjoy your weekend!
Debra, how long does it take you to do these posts? LOL! I love the platypus one! I am still laughing! LOL! Happy Australia Day! LOL!
Must go back and read again - once I can stop laughing.
I'm back from my blog break - and working on getting a more regular routine of blogging again - and finally getting around to catching up on blog reading.
Oh I would love to visit Australia but I am not sure how I would react to the freaky shit as it is called in one of the comics. :)
Dang - that kangaroo in the alley is scary!
'start ya bastard' ... the best!
Hi human, Debra,
G'day, fair dinkum and a lot of strewth in this here pawst. Oh yeah, Australia Day. Gotta' love it.
Whenever I think of Australia, the name Alice Springs to mind. And no, I wont paw out any more stuff because it's all you Canberra.
Pawsitive wishes,
Penny, the friend of koalas.
Haha! Right now I'm blitzed from two glasses of wine and feeling very simpatico with koalas! Wishing you a great retired week, Debra!
Bahahaha. Also, not just weird and wild--the animals are all poisonous there, lol!
I learn so much useful stuff from your blog posts - who need college ?!?
lets all go to Australia
Oh my you made me laugh out loud as hubby 's nap got disturbed and now i have to share your naughty way of celebrations
i know australia for kangaroos earlier and now for the lovely blog of dear friend Margaret from australia "thoughts and happenings"
you are outstanding in creating humour even in serious things dear Debra!
AND Australia is also the country of Cate Blanchett.
I loved the animals in the forest/jungle
