Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "May Sweets"

Rain's weekly Art Date has a baking theme all this month.

And it just so happens that one of my
very favourite fruits to bake with is blueberries

So thanks, Rain, your prompt has inspired me
to finally complete my one remaining
unfinished assignment from the
"Art of Coloured Pencils" class
which I took in the Fall of 2019.

This is where I left off way back then --

A total of 8 different Prismacolor pencils
brought these blueberries to life.

Here's the finished piece --

So what did I do with all those blueberries?

Baked a blueberry crostata, of course!

Mmmmmm, SO delicious!

My Rare One put on
her OWN whipped cream,
thank you very much --

Your artwork is beautiful, you have great talent. I never would have thought to draw and color the berries on a dark canvas/paper.

@ Laurie -- Thank you so much, Laurie! I had to wait until retirement to have the time to fully explore making art, as is the case with many people, alas. But I'm having a blast now!

What a delicious post today. My daughter loves blueberries. She buys the dried fruit. I have never heard of it being grown here in Trinidad and Tobago.

Your blueberry crostata looks good enough to eat. Even better with whipped cream.

Wow! Those berries lasted a long time between the start and the finish of the piece! Cryogenics, perhaps? Lol. Really though, the drawing is exquisite.

The crostata looks delicious. I'm with Your Rare One on the suitable whipped cream coverage!

The before and after photos are just striking. You really brought those white outlines to life.

Now that you are out of unfinished class assignments what will you use for inspiration?

"Art date", huh? Let us hope that Rain is not one of those Internet Seductresses your Rare One was worried about.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Old Lurker -- No need to besmirch Rain's reputation, LOL! She is, of course, entirely above board.

What a beautiful art piece - it's making me hungry.

Kirk said...

You are quite the artist. So you drew this on black paper? I would never have guessed looking at the finished product, though I suppose there's no reason for me to assume the paper was white.

yellowdoggranny said...

blueberry's are one of my favorite fruits. I have some in fridge right now. I put with yogurt and have it for breakfast...but now I think I'm going to make a blueberry tart. I have a great recipe and haven't made it in years.. and your painting is beautiful. You are very very talented.

Haddock said...

That finished piece of Blueberries looks lovely. A lovely splash of blue.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Kirk -- Yes, our teacher for that course had us do this on black art paper. I'm not entirely sure why, but I can only assume that the paper causes light to reflect differently somehow through the layers of coloured pencils? I should have asked her!

The artwork is lovely but the food makes my mouth water.

Your artwork is spectacular! And I love blueberries. Oh my gosh...that blueberry crostata. Looks so delicious!

Magaly Guerrero said...

You know, blueberries aren't my favorite fruits. But you've painted and baked them so yummily that my taste buds are reconsidering. Yum!

Suz said...

Your blueberries are so very pretty; well done. I have not an ounce of drawing talent, so I'm envious of yours.
The dessert looks amazing too!

Debra,

Many apologizes for the late return visit. I'm struggling to get my routine blogging legs back under me after the April blogfest but not to worry I will eventually find my way back again. :) I just love your colored pencils blueberries - so realistic! I recently bought a black sketch pad, as well as white & colored chalk. But, I hadn't thought about using colored pencils with the dark paper. Now, I feel there are even more possibilities. Initially I got the new art supplies after months of admiring Rain's beautiful chalk portraits of actors which inspired me to do try doing the same. I haven't yet but I hope to before summer is over. One thing for sure is I won't be as good as Rain. She does great work! Anyway, I love your blueberry artwork! :)

You're great with painting shadows/dimensions. It looks as thought I could grab some juicy blueberries. Beautiful work!

Magic Love Crow said...

Deb, I know I have told you this so many times, but you are so talented! Have you framed any of your pieces? You should! These blueberries are so real looking! Wow! Did you keep any blueberry crostata for me? LOL! Looks so good! I'll have extra whipped cream too! LOL! Big Hugs!

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Magic Love Crow -- Thanks for your kind words, Stacy! No, I don't frame my stuff, I just put the finished pieces in a portfolio for safekeeping there.

The Happy Whisk said...

ONG Debra. I have missed your blog. Again, that art and photo copyright. Laughed out freaking loud. I love this blog. It's brilliant.

Rommy said...

That colored pencil art turned out so well! Blueberries are one of my favorite things too.

Rain said...

Oh Debra....your blueberries turned out AMAZING!!! I'm so glad you finished that piece, it's definitely a work of art. Coloured pencils can do so much and you have the talent to bring that out!!! I laughed...I would probably be like your Rare One when it comes to whipped cream!!! :)
