For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
From the "Drawing Australia" course
which I'm currently taking, here's
a bearded dragon lizard.
As usual, this was done freehand
using HB, 2B, 4B and 6B pencils.
According to Wikipedia --
Pogona is a genus of reptiles containing eight lizard species, which are often known by the common name bearded dragons or informally (especially in Australia) beardies. The name "bearded dragon" refers to the underside of the throat (or "beard") of the lizard, which can turn black and become inflated for a number of reasons, most often as a result of stress, if they feel threatened, or are trying to entice a mate. . . . They are found throughout much of Australia and inhabit environments such as deserts and shrublands.
A real cutie-patootie, isn't he/she?

@ My name is Erika -- In the photo we were working from, his head is white and his body is light brown.
@ Cleora Borealis -- Yes, he's winking at you but just ignore him. He's a player.
So you are talented too! Geez, I have no talent at all so I love seeing others do their thing. This is awesome!
Wow, great sketch!!! Are they those whose tongue turns blue under stress? Once we stopped to shoo one from the road and he got mad...
Wow..you are so talented....he looks almost real!! Have a good weekend...
Yikes! So lifelike that I'm relieved he can't jump off the page - or out of the screen...
Stunning work, as usual, Debra!
Because of my being creeped out by lizards, and this one being so realistic, this post needed one of those "I understand and continue" warnings.
@ Iris Flavia -- I don't know about bearded dragon's tongues but ooooooo, wouldn't that be neat to see?
@ BootsandBraids -- Sorry, Shirley, hope this one didn't freak you out TOO much!
I love that!
Codex: Not an easy posture to draw. We'll done

Jeebus, that poor bugger has a face only a mother could love! But you did a fantastic job giving dimension to his spinal ridge.
