Why I Love the Sedin Twins: Reason #3

Because Henrik and Daniel Sedin support the You Can Play Project, an organization dedicated to eliminating homophobia in sports. Currently, the televised ad campaign is focused largely on hockey but the project is applicable to all other sports too.

As stated on the You Can Play Project website: Locker rooms should be safe and sports venues should be free from homophobia. Athletes should be judged on talent, heart and work ethic, not sexual orientation.

I'm impressed that the Sedin Twins are willing to publicly take a stand against continued homophobia in sports. There are still lots of professional players who won't.

Good for them. But I think its easier for them to make that stand then others cause they're a duo. They don't stand alone they stand together. Everything is easier when you have a friend or family member right there beside you.
But good for them! They're quite the men!

I didn't think that watching a hockey star video could make me tear up....but it did. Hurray for the Burke family and their If you can play campaign.....I wish for that spirit to extend to all of life.

Yes, another reason to love them!

Excellent campaign! Three cheers for the Burke family, the Canucks and all who sincerely believe that all should play, if they can play. Loved this.

Great campaign, and wonderful about the participation of these twins, and other players, too. Personally, I have trouble understanding why this would be an issue to begin with. I'm not sure what someone's sexuality has to do with playing a sport, or anything else for that matter.

good onya, guys...

when did rogers take over the 'gm garage', in van?

one would think owning the one in trawna would be enough!

nice to be rich... i recall when they were a 2-camera outfit on cable tv... even though they owned CFRB radio... now look at their media empire!

This is such an intrinsic part of professional sport......I am encouraged to see that a few are taking a stand. I wish them luck in eradicating homophobia from sports.

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm still often amazed at just how interested/obsessive some people/media are with people's sexual orientation. Really?? It's 2012 people, grow up!

I'm glad there are some regular souls out there willing to take their stand in public. Thank goodness.

I can see why you like these two Deb.

Well, now I love them, too!

I there I was thinking that their stick dance was awesome ;-)

Well they are totally amazing! Sometimes a few hockey players are worth the outrageous salaries they are paid.
