Everyone Loves Winter in Multicultural Canada

So for the past couple of weeks, all of Canada has either been frozen under a nasty Polar Vortex or else got hit with blizzards and snowstorms. Yes, EVEN Vancouver!

But the Maritime Bhangra Group from Nova Scotia shows us all how to embrace snow and winter JOYFULLY -- in the true Canadian way!

Bhangra is a traditional Punjabi dance style from India. Doesn't it look like FUN? The moves are sort of like a cross between Bollywood and hip hop.

The Maritime Bhangra Group film their dances in many beautiful locations in and around Halifax, Nova Scotia, such as Point Pleasant Park, Citadel Hill and Peggy's Cove. So they're good ambassadors for their home province too. Plus they use their dancing to raise donations for the ALS Society of Canada (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

I just LOVE these guys!

What happy dancing! I love their spirit - I'll bet they're fun to hang out with. And their dancing is for such a good cause, too.

That was so damn fantastic. A couple things really stood out for me, the beauty of the dance, the humour,it brought a big grin to my face. But I do wonder, how the hell do they stay upright on that slippery street! Thank you for sharing, it's a Canadian thing, something I am very proud to be.

I do love me some bhangra! I'd love to be a guest at an Indian wedding, without tasting the food, of course.... Did you see the video of that kid that shovels the snow using a hoverboard?

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Dezmond -- No, I haven't seen the hoverboard one! And you don't like Indian food? I like it every once in a while, if it's not TOO spicy!

so much energy and fun to watch and listen to as well. Thanks

If they do this to raise money for ALS does that mean this dancing is the new Ice Bucket Challenge? Cos I could get down with that.

Thanks for the first smile of my day.
That dance would make shoveling snow a lot more fun!

That was absolutely delightful! What a way to start the week. AND they're charitable? These dudes are awesome. I love seeing their big grins through their bushy beards.

I love this! So much fun. And I love that they're wearing only t-shrits and running shoes outdoors in winter weather. Soooo Canadian :)

These guys are great! I have done some Indian dancing On Demand as a workout. So much fun. However I must look really silly doing it by myself. I would be a blast to dance in a group. I LOVE the music too.

The snow queen has finally taken her throne her too, as it has finally gotten cold and we were treated to the first ice storm. The dance does look fun, but I'm not about to try it......unless you want a good laugh.

I love this group, Debra! And I shared this video on Facebook, because this is exactly how I feel today! I've seen their video from Peggy's Cove, and I'm definitely going to look at more of theirs. Have a great day!

I love the video. All I want for Christmas is to be Canadian.

@ Janie -- Ha ha, you can be an honorary Canadian, Janie! Just start saying "eh" a lot when you talk.

That is great and what fun - I particularly appreciate that they are raising money for ALS. My niece living in Canada has ALS and has been in a Toronto hospital ever since 2011.

HI Debra! Wow, nice to see Indians dancing Bhangra .. in Halifax!!!:))) My husband is a Punjabi Hindu, and we live in Punjab, so I got quite accustomed to few Bhangra steps over the years, and I enjoy this dance. It is very good for shedding off calories too, hehe.

Cheers to those fearless Punjabi guys! burrraahh..)))
