Fast Away the Old Year Passes

New Year's Eve has never been a favourite holiday of mine. I find it to be a time of melancholy and forced cheer. I'm just as happy to skip it.

Looking forward to next year?

Jeez, I'm a real Little Miss Sunshine today aren't I?

I’m always up at midnight. No big deal. I get up to pee at 1:30. Soylent Green. Oh dear goddess! Thanks. Happy 2022 anyway.

I know that feeling!

I'm with you, Debra! New Year's eve has always been a mix of emotions for me, leaning mostly towards nostalgic sadness. I'd be perfectly happy skipping forward to the next day.

I feel that way about most statutory holidays. It's on the calendar, so get rejoicing! Happy new year anyway, see it in however you like!

Hi Debra, Lately I've been running out of ideas for things to eat, so Soylent Green is beginning to sound not so bad! Actually, I am more worried about the soy part, as soybeans are high in oxalates, and I have been advised to avoid them. Still, sometimes I have to cheat and eat spicy dried tofu cubes!
.
You can skip the New Year's eve if you like, but wishing you and your Rare One a great 2022!

I won't be up at midnight ether, however, I do a few things to bring in the new year. Wishing you the very best for 2022.

Totally hear you about the forced cheer. Plus my Dad passed away this day a year ago making it an additionally bleak holiday. This morning I got up and did not even take pj off - just put some sweat pants over them. I did laugh about the pee meme - it is like clockwork.

Happy 2022, Debra!
I’m planning on staying up. If only to laugh at 2021.

I've always hated New Year's Eve and Valentines Day as the two most exclusionary days for single people like moi. Societal pressure peaks on such "holidays" when everything is designed to make one feel less than normal for not having someone to kiss at midnight or with whom to lavish love and affection in the form of romantic dates, diamonds or flowers! This year, I'm watching a trilogy of Bogart & Bacall movies on TCM so at least I'll be having a better time than they are, LOL!

OMG! Husband is a movie buff, and I know that movie! We are staying put (well, there's nothing to go to anyway) and being boring. I'll probably be in bed with a book and husband will likely be watching a movie! Maybe when we wake up the next day / year, it will all be better! -Jenn

i'm not a fan of new years either. considering that i am in bed every night at 7:30, midnight is almost my wakeup time! happy new years though!

I have always liked the feeling of ushering out the old year and bring the new one in. Even as bad as the last two years have been, and getting harder, I can still find good things to come from each year.

Happy New Year Tiding to you and rare one.

HNY Debra, to you and the Rare One.

Isn't there some vegan product out now called Soylent? That is so gross to even consider!
The memes are all great ... As usual! I'm old, 9:45 is my usual bedtime! 2022 will roll in whether I am awake or not!
I hope we all have a happy New year!!

You are not the only one who feels that way, Debra ~ meh!

I have never seen Soylent Green and will have to look for it streaming somewhere! I can't remember the last time I watched the ball drop. I will be asleep by 10pm. I hope you have an enjoyable 2022 Debra!

I’ve never enjoyed the celebration either.

Happy New Year, Debra.

I am with you! We can only hope that 2022 is better than 2021. Doesn’t look very hopeful …stay safe my friend.

I'm going to bed at bedtime. The 21st century holds no fascination for me.

That summary was spot on, LOL. I've seen Soylent Green countless times. Never paid attention to it being in the future and that the future is NOW. I'll have to think about what I want to see on the screen at the soylent station. Probably something naughty. Have a safe, healthy, happy 2022.

We are staying up to watch a movie (I will probably fall asleep before midnight). I have a roast in the slow cooker that will be done in about 3 hours.

I hope your New Year's pee is very satisfying, lol!

I just verified that Soylent Green did take place in 2022. And it seems about right that it could happen next year.

If I'm up at midnight because I have pee.
Coffee is on and stay safe

@ Mike -- And you know what the truly scary thing is? All of us older Boomer bloggers are in the exact demographic to BECOME Soylent Green! GAAAAAHHHHHH!

The thing about this whole Holiday Season- it is like your old friend had a stake driven through his heart and every year he comes crawling out of his 1500 year old grave to tell you that the calendar has changed!

Of all the compulsory holidays, New Year's is the silliest.

I don't keep it either. But because we live here, i will take the opportunity to thank you and your rare ones.

I was up at midnight and sat with Lucky for 40 minutes until the fireworks died down. Even in the distance when all I can hear is gentle pop pop, it makes him nervous and he barks loudly.
Have enjoyed your blog all year and look forward to next. Happy New Year, Debra

I never liked new year and new year's eve much either. Not certain why.

When my husband was amongst the living, we never went out on NYE - "not going out around all the amateur drunks" he said. That plus, I don't like fireworks made (and still is) not a big holiday at my house. It's really just one month ending - another month starting.

If I'm up anytime after midnight, my bladder is to blame.
I hope you had a good one, whether you ignored it or not.

I'm always at home for NYE. The fireworks upset the pet. As for me, I may have been awake when the year turned but it was only because I was reading in bed.

I was never a party person.celbrating new year means to me is little mixed feelings .some memories from past some emotions about world and circumstances and little reminder of moment when time will end foe me as living being

It must be over 22 years since I've been to any sort of New Years party, and I'm not the wild party type to begin with. LOL, I spent it re-watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and putting stickers in my 2022 planner.

the 3 ggs and I ate lots of crap, drank 'cocktails' blew our horns and tossed confetti at midnight and fell asleep watching a movie.
