Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "Cups"

Rain's visual suggestions for today's art prompt
include, not surprisingly, many beautiful
teacups and coffee cups.

But in my city of Edmonton, Alberta,
"cups" mean ONLY ONE THING, baby --

THE OILERS' FIVE STANLEY CUPS!

Now, of course, all these Cup victories were won
back in the Oilers' GLORY DAYS of the 1980s.

It's been one long 30+ year DROUGHT since then.

But that does not deter Edmonton's PRIDE
from being displayed all over the city in the form of
huge, oversized Stanley Cup replica statues.

So here are my photos of them
in fulfilment of today's art prompt --

These next replicas are found outside
the Oilers dressing room in Rogers Place arena.

Opposing teams have to walk by the display
to reach their dressing room --

just for the INTIMIDATION FACTOR.

There is NOTHING that
Edmonton wants MORE
than to add a SIXTH Cup
to this lineup some day.

Maybe in the 2022-23 Season?

LET'S HOPE!

Love it all.
The most outstanding? The collection of cups they have to go by before getting to the dressing room. Shady! LOL

XOXO

There is room for a couple more before they need a larger cabinet.

The Stanley must be the biggest Cup ever. No little chalice for these guys!

I'm sorry, but without knowing any background on the design of these awards, I find them aesthetically lacking. No offense.

A different take on cups. well done. Have a great day.

Phew - I thought for a second you were going to a jock strap cup and I got a little anxious. Hope springs eternal or some such thing so good luck in 22-23.

@ Lady M -- Hahahahahaha! That never even occurred to me. And that's a good thing! Thanks for the good luck wishes -- but you'll have to quit hogging OUR Stanley Cup there in Colorado!

Great approach to the theme! :-)

I remember those glory days or I would never have known about the Edmonton Oilers. May they be in their cups again.

@ peppylady (Dora) -- According to the internet, it weighs 34.5 pounds!

I don't understand hockey, but GO DEBRA'S TEAM!

It could be worse. You could be a Maple Leafs fan.

Team droughts are definitely the worst

@ Janie Junebug -- Thanks for your support! The Oilers need all the help they can get these days.

@ Old Lurker -- That's true. I was 10 years old the last time the Leafs won the Stanley Cup. Now I'm a Senior Citizen. 'Nuff said.

Those are some great cups!
And here I thought you were going to discuss other cups. Ya know, the A, B, C, D, DD ones? 😳😜

The St. Louis Blues have 1 Stanley Cup (2019) in four tries.

Alas, Lord Stanley's Cup has become a Holy Grail for Canadian hockey fans: elusive and just out of reach every *#@!*%$ year... at least the Grey Cup is still ours!

That's a great take on cups. I love it. I'm more of a Bruins fan though-smile. hugs-Erika

Not the sort of cup I'm interested in, but I hope they do win that sixth cup.

...a fabulous CUP! Have a wonderful weekend.

That's amazing! I can see why you are so proud of them. Here it is all about the Green Bay Packers and this year, sadly, there is no hope of them bringing home anything!
Have a wonderful weekend, Debra! xo Diana

The Stanley cup is a mighty cup! There is no hockey team where I live now but I do remember the hype years ago when the Bruins won it one year.

Nothing quite like civic pride. I’ve got no dog in the fight so……..GO OILERS!

Bracken Crafts- 100 garments said...

I can get the pride part but I do not know the game really. Its more football (socker) here and rugby. I can get the glory days thing though since live wih a Coventry City FC fan for the last 32 years. The last time CCFC did well was back in 1988 I think. The pride never leaves but they nearly get relegated most years and usually (hopefully because it affects everything where I work!), usually manage to cling on and survive. They have been through loss of club grounds and playing as guests in different local cities in recent years too because they never owned their own football ground but the fans never stop being loyal.

Go Oilers! Wales had some glory days back in the last century too!

Very cool take on the cup theme!! Of course, I'm from Montreal, so we do know our cup pride lol...though I've been so far removed from sports since buying the house. I remember going to Tronna to the Hockey Hall of Fame and saw THE cup there! It was a glorious site, under glass with those velvetty ropes that somehow stopped folks from going any further! ☺

Your response to art date is hilarious though with nice message. Hope your favourite team go for another cup soon :)

Okay so I won't complain about our own drought. And at least we did well in 2021. But it could be worse: I could be a Leafs supporter.

I didn't know The Oilers were a thing; I learned something.
