Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "Gingerbread"

I'm going the meme route again
with this week's Art Date Theme
by Rain Frances --

Whaddya mean, I'm a lazy SOB
for posting memes instead of
my own artwork?

You wound me.

The great thing about gingerbread houses
is that they can be as simple or as complex
as you want to make them!

Okay, okay, you've shamed me into sharing
old photos of some of the gingerbread houses
which My Rare One and I have made
together over the years --

[Preceding 4 photos © Debra She Who Seeks]

I've never tried to make gingerbread cookies,
but if I did, I'd want them to look
as spectacular and delicious as RuPaul
in her gingerbread drag --

Oh, thought I couldn't work
superheroes into this post?

Think again!

I like the superheroes.

Hello Debra, What I have always wondered about gingerbread houses is do you eat them, or do they go to waste. What did you do with yours?

OMG the gingerbread superheroes? Gimme!
And I love that one of the houses has the nutritional facts right there.
The bong one is a bonus: you get the munchies and bam! There it is. You eat the door and are ready for the second hit.

XOXO

Nutrition info in your build is too funny. Cookies and milk fencing is brilliant. You're putting me in the mood to give a gingerbread kit another frustrating go at.

@ Parnassus (Jim) -- When My Rare One and I were making gingerbread houses, our neighbours across the street had two kids at home who would gladly eat them and all that candy when we were done. Kids can burn off mega-calories and sugar like that with no difficulty, unlike us! We don't make gingerbread houses anymore, now that those kids are grown up and on their own. I don't think we could lavish all that candy on one and then just throw it away -- too wasteful!

@ Sixpence Notthewiser and @ BootsandBraids -- Glad you enjoyed that "nutritional label!" We found it on a goofy Hallmark card, thought it was hilarious and so incorporated it into our house design for that year. Here's what the label says:

I love the Snoopy Doghouse.

And Ru.

Nice gingerbread selections! Rue Paul in gingerbread is great

Tundra Bunny said...

My fave is Snoopy and his doghouse, though I like how you used candy canes on House #2 to curve upward -- kinda gives it a Japanese temple vibe! Your haunted gingerbread houses at Halloween are a hoot too!

LOVE Snoopy and your houses!

CraveCute said...

I've never seen gingerbread like this before. LOL!

I too love the nutrition facts - that just cracked me up. I would never attempt to eat one of those things!

That first one would be funnier if the bowl of the pipe was made to look like the chimney of the house. Still amusing, though. I love the ones you and Your Rare One made! The nutritional label is hilarious...

I've never made a gingerbread house.

I love the Super Gingerfolk (of course). I've only made a Gingerbread House once...at a party where we all made them. It was fun, but more for the company and cocktails, I'm sure.

Yay for superheroes!

I am not a big fan of gingerbread, but I eat it anyway because it tastes like Christmas. With tea. Oh and there is nothing cuter than watching Wolfie make a gingerbread house with his auntie (my brother's girlfriend).

Guillaume said...

Oh and I should blog about gingerbread soon...

Love those Gingerbread houses. Can you believe I have never made one? I'd better put it on my bucket list before it gets any longer.

You and Rare One created magnificent gingerbread houses. I'd expect no less.

Keep enjoying the season, friend.

My gingerbread house would be one cookie with a sign that said "imagine a house".

I made a gingerbread house once. It was tasty, but what a pain in the ass. My problem was I didn't have the patience. And I might have had a gin or two.

My gingerbread house fails have been epic.

I love the super heroes and Snoopy. So cool. I made a ginger bread house once. Lots of work but it's worth every nibble.

The nutrition information is great. Glad it’s not true... please tell me it’s not true. I have never made a ginger bread house. Cookies yes, but not in a long time. Your houses are so creative and clever.

Forgot to mention the gangiabread house with the munchies immediately at hand. Ingenious.

Your creations are fantastic! That is talent! Making gingerbread cookies is a nightmare. The dough is ridiculously hard that I can't even roll it out! I would recommend buying the cookies.

Busy Bee Suz said...

You two have made some impressive gingerbread houses over the years! Love the nutritional values and of course, Ru Paul looks delicious too.

Gingerbread houses with white snow yards need 5 or 6 little chocolate chips scattered in the yard so people will think that the owners have a dog.

Oh ha ha! I like the first meme the best. I am still waiting for the day when that plant will be as common as a pot of basil.

I swear, i have fond memories of the before reagan days.
I used to love marijuana. Now, i have to apply for a license.

And they are not going to do that. They have tried to destroy my relationship with that plant and they have succeeded. It is just an herb, we use it.

But now we have to buy it from criminal gangs, which includes these biblebangers and republicans.

I so admire anyone who can do a gingerbread house! I did once have a go at gingerbread men, and gave them as small Yuletide gifts, but not the same.

Kirk said...

Now all you need in one of those houses is Hansel, Gretel, and a witch.

DVArtist said...

Ohhh I love that first one. Very good.

Andrea @ From The Sol said...

Well, I think you have out done us all with this post ... LOL. Oh the shame and the laughter. This is awesome and oh my, your gingerbread houses are magnificent. I have never even attempted one. Gingerbread men, yes, but never a gingerbread house. I am impressed and smiling :) Enjoy your holiday season, Debra ...

...you sure have some mighty sweet gingerbread houses!

Ur-spo said...

I have never had a gingerbread house so I have a question: do you eat them or are they mere decoration?

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Ur-spo -- They are indeed technically edible, if you want to eat that much sugar and so many calories. My comment above to Parnassus (Jim) tells how we always managed to avoid eating our gingerbread houses, yet they did not go to waste!

Adam said...

I've never actually built a gingerbread house

Couldn’t figure out how to make the plumbing work and the wiring was sketchy at best
