Ultra Cool Artistry and Craftsmanship

I love this internet photo of a spectacled owl
looking at the amazing crocheted barn owl shawl
worn by this woman at a Renaissance Faire!

And keeping with the bird theme,
how about this fab crocheted chicken purse?

I really like the ingenuity
of these crocheted and beaded geodes!

This next photo shows artistry and craftsmanship
in the service of science and industry.

It's a 1956 photo by Ansel Adams entitled
Hands weaving magnetic-core memory, IBM,
Poughkeepsie, New York.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders of the
Canadian Football League have the BEST FANS in the country
and they are not afraid to show their undying devotion
in homemade, goofy ways, like wearing football
helmets made out of carved watermelons
[see my posts here and here, if you want].

But if you can't find a watermelon, how about
wearing a cowboy hat constructed out of a
Molson Old Style Pilsner beer box instead?
(Molsons is an official sponsor of the Roughriders).

This stunning Progress Pride Flag was beaded
by Amanda Montelo. It is made of 36,000 beads,
weighs 20+ lbs, and took two months to handcraft.

Okay, one last bird-related treasure --
look at this crocheted hawk shawl!

It makes me think of the magical falcon's cloak
worn by the Norse Goddess Freyja in order
to shapeshift into flying mode.

This shawl's pattern was designed by Crafty Intentions
and it was made by ihavethemangoes.

And finally, feast your eyes on
this absolutely stunning Solar System
embroidered and beaded by Ophélie Trichereau.

You can see more of her beautiful
art and embroidery here, if you want.

Wow! These are all so stunning! So much artistry!
I love the embroidered solar system the most. The little alien popping in for a fly by is adorable.

These are amazing. All of them. I especially like the owl and the hawk shawls. I was trying to figure out if the hawk shawl is machine knit or crochets or both, and the owl is definitely knit but I wonder if they did it in pieces and then connected them. thanks so much for sharing these.

These are all beautiful, but my fav is the beaded rainbow hanging piece!

These are all works of art and talk about hours of work? But I cannot lie the crocheted chicken purse is actually cute. It sure beats the rubber one I have.

...what intrigues me about art is the artist can conceive of an idea and then execute it! Which is harder?

Oh.
I’m going to need the hawk wing shawl STAT. Ihavethemangoes here I come!

XOXO

@ My name is Erika -- I can never tell the difference between crocheting and knitting, probably because I can't do either! Well, I did knit a pair of simple slippers once but it was an utter, UTTER, disaster so I never picked up the needles again!

I am in awe of artists that can produce pieces like these.

So many arts we can explore, so much work left to do.

🇨🇦 The Roughriders, eh? Martin short did a hilarious minute on Letterman 9 years ago* explaining the CFL! Out of 8 teams, 2 of them were the same name (the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Saskatchewan Roughriders). I love it still!🤪🤣

Wonderful selection of handcrafted items! The stitched solar system in a hoop frame is stunning. I would absolutely wear the hawk shawl!

I am in constant awe at what the human mind can envision and that human hands can create with that vision. These are just amazing.

Handcrafting and handmade items are not a lost art, as the people who made these items so ably demonstrate. My 87 year old Sister with failing eyesight and arthritic hands is crocheting up a storm, making little pouches that hold a cellphone and other items for her friends and family. Says it keeps her mind active and fingers exercised. All your pictures are noteworthy and appreciated.

All wonderful; I can't decide which is best ~ the solar system or the rainbow hanging! Thanks so much for sharing!!

@ Cleora Borealis -- Thanks for that clip, I haven't seen it before! The confusion is over now, however, because the Ottawa Rough Riders went bankrupt a number of years ago and folded. The new Ottawa team is called the "Redblacks" (meant to evoke the colours of lumberjack check jackets because Ottawa started off as a lumber industry town).

i am hoping that shawl will someday be worn by the judge who sentences trump to prison.

@ marcy -- Your comment has made me LOL so much! Thanks!

Hello Debra, Some amazing artistry on display here. That one solar flare looks like it could destroy the earth's atmosphere or something like that, although there is no rule that that cannot happen. In fact certain people on Earth have kind of been asking for it.

Wow! Stunning, every one! Inspiration, vision, skill, time - it takes a lot to create a masterpiece.
My daughter knitted me an 'emotional support chicken' and it is amazing - and, yes, strangely comforting!

All of these are simply gorgeous!!! The Pride beads, that Adams photo and oh that embroidery!!

Wow! Those are stunning!!!

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Parnassus (Jim) -- I cannot possibly imagine who on earth you're referring to, hahahaha!

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ e -- There was a woman here in Edmonton a couple of years ago who was knitting emotional support chickens in Oilers colours for people during the team's Stanley Cup run! The chickens were staggeringly popular.

Amazing fiberart, thank you for showing us. I want to use the rainbow inclusion flag on my blog, crediting the artist. I wonder how to reach her to ask. Must check.

Artist and designer, that is.

The Solar System and Barn Owl Shawl are GORGEOUS! I wonder how many hours it took those artists to make them.
