Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "Fruit"

To fulfill Rain's prompt this week,
I'm posting every painting of fruit
I've ever done in the past quarter century.

But don't worry,
there's only five in total, LOL.

These were all done in watercolour alone,
or in watercolour and ink.

I'll have to say the 2019 piece is my fav.
Is it the shadowing? Is it the colors?
I have no idea. But that's my favorite.

XOXO

Neat, nice, well done. I could frame lemons for my kitchen,

The Lemon Slice one is especially cheery!
Nice work.

Nice job, Debra. I think fruit is very hard to paint. I didn't realize you had painted for years. I keep thinking I should start painting again. xo Diana

Hmmmmmmm Debs dear...2019 is rather suggestive, is it not?!?!

I feel like I owe the Lad and Lumbersexual a call.

I'm partial to lemons...

@ NanaDiana -- Before i retired in 2018, I only dabbled occasionally in watercolours which is why my old stuff is particularly cringe-y. I only started systematically taking art classes when I retired 5 years ago. I find watercolours particularly challenging, LOL!

Your earliest is much better than I think you know! It's bold -- see early Georgia O'Keefe nudes -- and I really like it. Beginner mind, maybe? Anyway, that's a keeper.

Good morning, I Love your paintings!

Liz Hinds said...

I like all of those different styles.

You scared me! Well done Debra.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Boud -- Thanks for your kind words about that early attempt! I did "go for the gusto" with that one, didn't I? Hahahahaha!

Watercolor is damned difficult! I like your fruits, maybe the lemons best of all...

I noticed that you have gotten so much better over the years. The adage practice makes perfect is strong with this one, Grasshopper.

I think your best painting is the first apple/plum? from 1995 with its bold colours. The lemon slices are nice too in a stylized way. Either would make a beautiful greeting card!

Mike said...

Nicely done. I like the font on the apple. And the filled-in closed loops on the lemon font.

Some nice ones.
Thanks for dropping by my blog.

I love all of these. 2022 is beautifully brooding.

Were the 2019 and 2022 pieces for a class?

angela said...

Lovely. Fruit would be really hard
I don’t think I’d attempt it Unless I got really good

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Old Lurker -- Yes, each was done for a separate course.

Do you happen to see the changes in your drawing styles over the years? These paintings do look full of energy and punchy colours and clear edges. Beautiful works

You do a great job with your paintings, Debra! Love these.

Nicely done, Debra. I am so jealous of people that can draw or paint. Just never had that in me. I don't know if you wanted to know but 2019 was my favorite.

I do like 2022. Good lemons, and I'm not particularly fond of the fruit.

Adam said...

Amazing that you have something from 1995 which wasn't that long... Ago.... 🧓⏳

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ roentare -- Yes, I can see the progress from 1995 to 2022, which pleases me. Thanks for noticing too!

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Adam -- Hahahahaha, yes, you young whippersnapper, I know I'm old! Were you even born in 1995? If you were, you'd only have been a toddler then at most, I bet!

The last jumped out at me because it's so different from the rest. You must have been in a whimsical mood at the time.

Nicely done, Debra, each and every one! Wishing you and your Rare One a great weekend!

My fave is the apple from way back in 1995. I like the sense of excitement and discovery of playing with watercolour paint.
It's a keeper, and it is nice to look at.

0.Bonus comment, because i think we need to rescue our marmot.
For years they have been digging the poor creature up and dressing him like a trump supporting pennsylvania version of a guinea pig. They do it for fun. Of course he sees his shadow.
If i had those jerks looming over me,i would see my shadow also too.
I like the festivity, but don't forget that our Punxatawney Phil still has teeth.
It is probably the only time we celebrate these creatures.

As someonen who can't draw or paint even a single circle, I am truly impressed with all your fruit. Simply beautiful art. Those lemon slices are out of this world.

Andrea @ From The Sol said...

All of your paintings are awesome, each different in how it reflects it's own reality ... but fruit is fruit, no matter how you paint it, right? Very nicely done, Debra ...
