Friday Face OFF -- Toddler

Every Friday, blogging buddy Nicole Campanella
hosts Friday Face OFF, a link party
of art featuring faces!

I'll be participating on Fridays over the summer
because I have a bunch of portraits to post
of people and animals done in recent art classes.

Today's portrait: a little girl
drawn in graphite pencil
(2B, 4B, 6B).

Doesn't she just look full of mischief!

What shenanigans do you think she is plotting?

I'm not sure what that little girl's up to but it's no good I can tell you that. It's a beautifully done picture though.

I normally don't trust children, and this one is no exception.
And now that I've said that I think she's coming for me.

Boud said...

She's planning to bring home a cat. From next door.

Reminds me of my Aunt Edith, she was so much fun.

That child is going to steal a candy bar or set the house on fire while everyone's asleep. We'll see what happens.

Love,
Janie

She looks like she has a naughty secrete. I think someone has just been to the cookie jar and helped herself lol

Guillaume said...

Are you that little girl? Well, were you?

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Guillaume -- No, the drawing is not based on a photo of me. However, I DID have a very similar "pixie" haircut when I was little, lol!

Mike said...

I was looking at all the individual lines and at each line, I would think, hmmm 2B or not 2B.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Mike -- GROAN!

She looks stubborn. No way am I going to tell her to wash her mouth with soap. Not if I want to keep my fingers, we might have to come up with a different plan.

Are there toddlers who are not full of mischief?

I think this one has plans to get ice cream all over that dress.

She planning to take over the world, I just know it.

That's an amazing portrait. You really captured the look of a toddler. Funny how drawing children of most ages and older folks is harder (for me at least) than drawing someone who is an adult. I guess I need to study facial features more-smile. Have a great weekend, and thanks for visiting my blog. Hugs-Erika

This is a lovely drawing, and I admire your talent. I think she's deciding if she's gonna sneak some pudding or a cookie from the pantry.

LA Paylor said...

kudos to you! I try to sketch just with pencil but can't seem to get the shadows right... did you learn by doing, or have some online teachers? What kind of pencil do you use, I'm fairly new to drawing, spent more time painting but want to draw with pencil.
really fun to see the smocked dress... like I used to wear as a baby

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ LA Paylor -- I drew a lot on my own when I was young up until I graduated from university and went into the workforce. Then art had to wait until I retired, LOL. What really helped my shading was learning about different "B" grades of pencils and taking drawing lessons aimed at retirees offered at reasonable prices through seniors recreation centres in my city.

I use Staedtler pencils, available wherever art supplies are sold. My standard procedure is to draw the outline in HB grade because it's light and easy to erase. Then I use (in this order) 2B for light grey shadows, 4B for medium grey shadows, and 6B for dark grey/black shadows. And of course any super-light areas are just left white.

She's definataly planning something.

She's done something wrong and is about to blame her sister for it!

up to no good that's certain.

Liz Hinds said...

You as a child maybe?!

Bleubeard and Elizabeth said...

Sorry I'm late visiting, but life and a flood in my basement got in the way of computer time. Perhaps I can blame it on that little girl who looks like she might have set the flood gates free. This is a stunning drawing.

I have been here before, but have not had a chance to look around like I did tonight. I LOVE what you did for Pride Month. So glad you had the courage to share these because the LGBTQ+ community needs all the love and support it can get.

Our attorney general is trying to pass a law that all people must use the gender they were born with on their drivers licenses. Our Governor is suing him. Not sure what will happen, but we are a HUGE Maga state (not me, of course).

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Liz Hinds -- No, it's not me. The photo is of the art instructor's daughter when she was a little girl.

Andrea @ From The Sol said...

You did a wonderful job capturing the mischievous look on her face ... and who could know what is churning in her mind. I look back on my childhood and I can think of a lot of things it could be :) I look forward to your next face :)

I bet you had that look sometimes though!

That little cutie is definitely up to something!

So cool! And she does look full of mischief. I have an image of myself at the age of three or so with the same haircut. When I showed it to my husband, he said I looked like a troublemaker. He wasn't far off. LOL
