Hello Debra, How ironic that a years ago millions of brave people saved the world for us, while recently a different large group most likely destroyed it.

@ Parnassus (Jim) -- Yes, a lot of vets and others who fought fascism are turning over in their graves right now.

...Remembrance Day is a great, better than our Veteran's Day.

All that they fought for and this is what happens to America.

🤨 Oof! The "Lest We Forget" remembrance statement brings very different feelings for me. My Grammy was an enthusiastic member of the UDC (United Daughters of the Confederacy) and forced all of her grandkids into the CofC (Children of the Confederacy). They used that statement at the start of every meeting in remembrance of traitors to the US (plus continuing hate and racism) and I did not wait until adulthood to fight with Grammy about her reverence for the "war of the rebellion!" Some abuses in service of the indoctrination of children should never be forgiven!! 🤬 Lest We Forget! 🇺🇸

@ Cleora Borealis -- Sorry to hear that this phrase has such bad memories and associations for you. But so wonderful that you broke away from that tradition!

We will remember them as the fight continues.

Hi again, While we're on alternate uses of this phrase, this time more humorous, I recall that when the comedian Alan King was looking for a house in suburban New York, he found a big Victorian one that still had the old high-tank toilets with pull chains, each with a needlepoint placard at the end with the motto: Lest We Forget.

The best way to honour the service and sacrifice of all who have fought against fascism is to NOT elect far right-wing &/or fascist politicians... and put tax money into public schools instead of billionaire's pockets.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Tundra Bunny -- I second that motion!

I think of the horses, especially, that have bravely gone into battle for centuries and were wounded and died horribly. They had no choice but gave everything they had. You coiuld say the solodiers really had no choice either but in a diferent way, I guess.
