Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "A Poem"

This week, Rain's creativity prompt is not for artwork but for a poem! In the past, I dabbled in writing poetry, but the Muse deserted me once I started this blog because my efforts at writing were directed to blogging instead.

Actually, now that I think of it, the Muse should have deserted me before I wrote the following particularly histrionic piece of satirical nonsense. Oh well, too late now. Here it is for your amusement.

the horror of it all

when I was young
and full of

Self-Conscious Angst

I used to think my situation was

Tragic

I have the soul of a poet
trapped in the body of a lawyer!

but today I'm older
and wiser, as these things go.
I now realize my situation is

Even More Tragic

I have the soul of a lawyer
trapped in the body of a poet!

pity me

Oh, Jean-Luc . . . I knew YOU'D understand!

Oh, poetry!
I'm so jealous of anybody who can write poetry! So pretty.

There’s a Pulitzer in you. Or maybe it’s a Wurlitzer. But I love this poem. From what you’ve shared, I don’t think you ever really had the soul of a lawyer. Besides, I’ve read lawyers don’t have souls.

Good one Debra you are a poet!

I spent 13.5 years typing up a whole lot of lawyer's words and, believe me, none of them showed any kind of a poetic bent!

Drama Queen indeed. LOL I do love your poem. The first meme is perfect. I hope life is really treating you well.

If I'm being honest, ALL lawyers should have poet's souls.

I cannot write poetry to save my life.

Did you talk in rhyme in court?

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Mike -- No, I never had the nerve for that but there are many examples of judges writing all or part of their judgments in rhyme. Here's a link to a few American examples --

Too bad you had to end it.

Nice poem...and I wouldn't worry about being too dramatic. What's life without a little bit of good drama in it?

Your self-assessment won't hold up in a court of law. It's a funny little poem. Subpoena that muse!

Your poem is incredible. SO much better than mine, and so much more dramatic, too. I am in awe!

LOL ... smart and witty, you are indeed a poet trapped in the body of a lawyer and I am so glad that Jean-Luc gets it :) that makes it all worth while, right? Life is full of Drama so it's good to be able to make fun of it. Enjoyed this immensely ...
