Hail, Sister Valkyries and Brother Berserkers!
Earlier this month, My Rare One and I had occasion to dress in our best Viking finery for a photo shoot.
Despite appearances, we are not bedecked in red feather boas. That's the blood of our enemies. FEAR US.
But the photo shoot wasn't the only Scandihoovian excitement this month!
One of My Rare One's neighbours is a wonderful artist and crafter. She very generously gifted each of us with a Nordic Gnome that she made this Christmas!
When a Gnome enters your home, it is critical to give them an important, useful job to do or else they'll simply run amok making mischief.
So My Rare One's Gnome is busy guarding Ukrainian Easter eggs that My Rare One has made over the years.
Meanwhile, my Gnome is wrangling Christmas cards, keeping them neat, tidy and orderly.
Aren't they adorable?
Squeeeeeee!

the gnomes are adorable but not as adorable as the two of you!
Those are amazing, and apparently jelpful around the house.
Hello Debra, How are those gnomes at scrubbing floors?
--Jim
I need a GNOME now! (said in the voice of Veruca Salt!) They are so stinking cute and SO are you TWO!
Merry Christmas
They are both great! I love that gnomes are now popular - so many fun ones to choose from. -Jenn
OMG, LOVE THE GNOMES! and you two look like fierce warriors!
What a nice gift. That gnome is amazing. Have a very nice day.
Santa Gnome?
Love the gnome. Always feeling in a Norse mood during Christmastime.
I too have a couple of those delightful Gnomes, we used to call them Gonks when they were popular in Europe during the 1970's and I'm glad they've made a comeback in their new incantations. Your Nordic Theme made me Smile, whose Blood do you have running down your Shoulders... I could suggest some that need to go to their Valhalla, where ever that will be in the Underworld Afterlife... from the Political Theater, but then I'd be an accomplice and I'm getting too Old to serve Time now... so, I'm not the one who told you to... specifically, okay? *winks*
And that's all you're going to tell us about why you were dressed in the blood of your enemies?
Cute gnomes!
I Love Them! So adorbs ... LOL
Looks like you had some fun with the photo shoot. The gnomes are so adorable! I want to get one too.
Yes, those gnomes ARE adorable. And, I hate to burst your bubble, but the cute smiling faces on you and your Rare One are not going to instill fear in anyone. LOL.
Those are some cute gnomes. You are such vicious vikings. I fear for my life.
The gnomes are very sweet. How nice that they now have a home at your place! (I'm part-Viking on my father's side, btw.)
Those are julenissen! And beautiful ones at that. We have a small collection, begun on our first visit to Bergen, Norway, when we met some wonderful members of SG's extended family. They've since given us some and MADE us some themselves. I didn't unpack them this year but, inspired by you, will perhaps soon share photos from years past. I also love those eggs! AND you two are perfect skjaldmær!
I just read someplace that Viking was not a clan, it was a job title. I should have Gnome that.
Terrifying Viking raiders you're not; drunken Viking partiers you are! At least you have the cutest Gnomes I've ever seen -- I'd rather have a Gnome in my home than a Nutcracker...
@ Moving with Mitchell -- I look forward to seeing your julenissen! And thanks for teaching me that word!
@ Mike -- GROAN!
@ Tundra Bunny -- No horns of mead were lifted and imbibed. The very idea!
Great picture!!! I love gnomesI must have about eight of them..They are only out for Christmas..MAybe I should leave them out longer..Too late..maybe next year!!!..Have a Happy!!!!
With the cap over the eyes, it looks kind of like a cross between Papa Smurf and Beetle Bailey. That's meant as a compliment.
Very cool post.
Your clothing here is neat.
I love the Nordic Gnome.
Merry Christmas!
Just realized that "gnome" sounds like a contraction of "No, Ma'am." Well, a little.
Try it out on those guys.
Ask: "Are you a troll?"
I bet they'll both say "Gnome."
Sorry. Yule just have to put up with a bit of weirdness in some of your fans.
It was great to see you two!
BTW I strongly suspect that is a Tomte, not a Gnome.
@ Cynthia -- Oh, very punny!
Lovely gnomes. Definitely adorable. Ukrainian Easter eggs are a wonderful old art.
Yeah, thank me for teaching you incorrectly. Julenissen means "the" julinesse. So, it's usually just julenisse to you.
oooh, those adorable gnomes!!!
Yes, they are adorable! I've had gnomes in my garden for years (my neighbours will now stop shaking their heads) and now it's time to add some inside the house!
Those gnomes are adorable! I would love to have one!
The blood of your enemies is a lot fluffier than most blood. Those gnomes are wonderful! It looks like a merry christmas at your house!
Ok, so that first photo is EVERYTHING. And you are right, your enemies should be in mortal fear!!!
Now, as for the gnomes I need a pair STAT. Really. Who cares if it's not the holidays? Gimme!
XOXO
The blood of your enemies flowing down your shoulders... yes! The smiles say, 'Come closer and I'll chop off your head!'
Love the gnomes! So creative! The jobs you've given them are perfect. Now, the question remains - what will you do when the seasonal tasks are over? Will the gnomes go into storage or will they be given different tasks and remain on duty in the house?
Best holiday greetings to you and your Rare One!
@ e -- I think the Gnomes will have a well-deserved rest until called back into duty for next Yule! We don't want to overwork them.
I need a viking gnome..
They are very adorable! And, I am now living in fear of the photo of two fierce Vikings that might invade TX some day (a hint - don't come in the summer - tends to be too hot for metal hats and feathery blood!)
The gnomes are so cute and I love the costumes. Rock on.
Have you seen the movie Eurovision? If you don't view it the Gnomes will be mad.
the Ol'Buzzard
They are adorable, but so are the two of you! Such a cute post! Big Hugs!
Squeeeeeeee for sure! Your Rare One's eggs are gorgeous!
Love it.
