That last one! How sad. There was a very old cemetery next to my places in Bucks County when I lived there. The stones were so old they were either worn on the words and dates or split in half like this one.

And I once posted about a bench memorial I sat on one day at the lake where I'd run. People could have memorial benches placed in memory of loved ones. I sat at one, where the guy in memory was one, I'd slept with many times!! never saw it till I sat down, and then didn't even know he was dead.

It was a moment.

Keep collecting these - inspiration for the future.

So funny! Seriously, I love to look at gravestones in cemeteries. Some of the carving and statues are very beautiful. It's quiet there too and man, I am needing quiet these days!

That was big of "Yes John I knew" to even given him a stone and WOW!, Mistress Maddie. Of all the benches you could have come across. Just WOW!

Maddie's comment is interesting. My all-time favorite grave is in Springfield, Illinois, in the same cemetery as Lincoln's tomb. It was Mr. Accordion. I don't remember his real name, but apparently he was known as Mr. Accordion for his prowess on the instrument. The side of the large stone had a keyboard and the top listed some of his accomplishments. He was a vet so I always saluted him.

Love,
Janie

As someone who finds it fascinating to wander around graveyards filled with interesting tombs, strangely I am not bothered having one myself.

These are all so good. The one, "sit here and shout "Fuck off!" at the seagulls" made me laugh.

Huw's bench is funny, but it's just providing an eternal spot for the gulls to bother Huw the way they always wanted to! 💩💩💩💩💩

We all gotta go, so why not make it funny. :D

These are great! I think the bench plaques could apply to several people I know.
Mistress Maddie - amazing synchronicity!

The last one is probably a cruel prank by kids in times gone by.

Can't decide which I liked more - I was hoping for a pyramid or Yes John, I knew.

A bit early for New Mexico where the "Day of the Dead" is a big deal...November 2 ( related to the Catholic "All Souls Day"). Sorry I've been so distracted lately with health and other things, I haven't checked in too often.

What inscription would be on your hypothetical tombstone, Debra?

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Old Lurker -- I don't plan on having a tombstone but if I did, I think I'd put "Resting In Eternity."

Rest in hilarious peace. Especially liked the pyramid one.

On mine I'd like "Do Not Disturb" or "Sssh! she's sleeping"

How wonderful - and honest! I understand the f*ck off one is not a real one but who cares?

These are all great. I remember seeing one that said something like: I told you I was sick! 😳😜

Not in a creepy way, but I love old cemeteries and headstones.

"Yes John, I knew" is perfection.

What an hilarious bunch for tombstones Debra.
Looks like I'll be heading off to the cemetery soon and see if I can find some quirky tombstones.
Thanks, as always for the laugh my friend.

May you lie in peace, dear Billy Robbins Wood. As a native speaker, I have always had trouble with that verb, and I probably said it wrong.
I just came here to thank you for your help and kindness.

I don't know what you were like, but i can see that you were loved.

I hope to carry it on.

I think it was John Wesley Hardin's tombstone that read, He never shot anyone that didn't need killin'
I like the seagull bench.
For those of you who like to haunt graveyards, there is an app you can download where people ask for pictures of particular gravestones. You set it for your local and they really appreciate it if you find one.
