For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Here's a graphite drawing I did last year
of a woman shopping at an outdoor market.
Her face in profile is not actually
the focus of the drawing, is it?
Our eyes are immediately drawn instead
to the woman's generously-sized body and
the huge tote bag or purse she's carrying
for all her purchases to go in.
It will soon be time again to attend
outdoor farmers markets.
They're a fun aspect of the summer
and autumn harvest season.
I enjoy going to them -- do you?

The farmer's markets are already going around here.
...quite a bag lady!
I love the markets but don’t go often.
Love the sketch.
your shading is breathtakingly beautiful dear Debra!!!!!!!
i loved how you portray her ,it seems more than just plain painting but some heartfelt expression to me :)
her eye lashes and slight tiredness on her face makes her perfect portrait !
you are beautiful artist my friend!
We go to our local Framer's Market every Saturday for the fresh produce.
I love it!
I love farmers' markets and we have a fabulous one here every Saturday in fabulous, historic, downtown Troy (NY).
Farmers markets are good...I used to sell my work at one that wasn't limited to food as some are.
Being next to the apple juice and cider stall meant I sold a fair few mugs!!
Here in Lurkville we have a farmer's market that runs year round, but in the winter months local produce is mostly root vegetables. I am looking forward to vegetables but dreading the COVIDy crowds.
I feel like you featured this before but I was wrong. Was this part of the same drawing series as the woman in the boots and the woman in the trenchcoat?
@ Old Lurker -- Yes, this is part of that same series of drawings. I'd forgotten I'd done it and only rediscovered it recently while tidying up my art supplies area, so that's why it's being posted so much later.
I haven't been to our local farmer's market for a long time now, due to the fact the vendors tend to overprice their produce!
The local groceries are a better deal!
Graphite, huh?
Very nice. I think I really like graphite/pencil drawings.
And we also have Farmer's Market events during the summer. The produce is fab.
XOXO
Beyond words ~ your sketch captures the woman's essence even without a full face portrait ~ thanks,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

OMGosh this is stunning. I love your art. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a very nice weekend.
So good Debra
Love your sketch, a great idea. Hugs, Valerie
That is another great characterful drawing Debra. Our local farmer's market happens every Saturday throughout the whole year.
Great artwork and yes, love me some fresh local fruit and veg. All very cool. And soon we'll have transparent apples. My FAVE! Only found here at local places.
Beautifully done. Our local farmer's market just sent out a reminder.. opening in 22 days.
Another beautiful piece!!!! And it's not the size of the bag...but what goes in it!!!
Many of the farmer's markets near me buy their things from Produce Row. It's a true joy to find one that features actual farm-grown items.
I've enjoyed many farmers' markets in many places over the years, but one of the best ones was in Edmonton at the old Strathcona (Stadacona?) bus barns during the early 1990's! Is it still going, Debra?
That's an amazing drawing. I love your subject matter too. Have a great weekend.
This is so very good. Somewhat it reminds me of "Hécatombe" by Georges Brassens.
@ Tundra Bunny -- Yes, the Old Strathcona Farmers Market is still going strong! Last summer it celebrated its 40th year of operation. It's my favourite one in the city, too. It has the best selection of seasonal fruits & veg, crafts and baking. It's where I got my saskatoon berries last summer and I look forward to more this July!
Afraid I don't go to farmer's markets for the simple reason I don't buy or consume all that much produce. I know I should. It's better for my health. I'll have to start, and when I do a farmer's market is the first place I'm headed.
Very well done!!!
Farmer´s markets are here outside all year round (but we hardly go in winter...).
Yes! Went yesterday.
Nothing better than fresh fruits and veggies.
Your drawing is superb!! Looks like my old Italian Grandmother.😄
This is a beautiful drawing, my friend. Yes, I love a Farmers Market!
Yes I love country markets and in my place we have it all year round so autumn fresh fruits and vegetables.
Your design is very beautiful, I consider it an important quality in our time to design well!!
Farmers Markets are good fun. My eyes are drawn to her tote bag. She's gonna get a lot of veggies in there.
We all come different size and shape. It should be that way.
I go to farmers market so almost every week but they're not always outdoors. I love their fresh produce and it's nice to support the local vendors.
maybe i should send you money and have you draw me for my kids????
this is wonderful
